Hanoi has been implementing the "One Million Green Trees Program" since 2016, as part of social welfare programs in the capital city. In response to this program, and with the desire to cooperate in making Hoa Binh Park a famous cherry blossom park loved by local residents, AEON Group has been planting cherry blossom trees in the park since 2017. This is the third year that students from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities have had the opportunity to participate in this event.
This year's tree planting ceremony was honored to welcome Mr. Nguyen Duc Chung (Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee), Mr. Umeda Kunio (Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Vietnam), Mr. Hayashi Naoki (Director of AEON Environmental Foundation), Mr. Yoshida Akio (Vice President of AEON Corporation), Mr. Suzuki Masaki (President of AEON Financial Service Corporation), and Mr. Nishitoge Yasuo (Representative in Vietnam of AEON Corporation).

Mr. Nguyen Duc Chung delivered a speech at the ceremony.

The cherry blossom trees planted in the park were grown from seeds of cherry blossom trees brought to Vietnam from the Kyushu region of Japan – a region with a hot and humid climate similar to Hanoi, thus adapting well to Vietnam's soil conditions. Some trees planted in 2017 and 2018 bloomed during the recent Lunar New Year (Year of the Pig).
Assessing the cherry blossom trees already planted as thriving, this year, a total of 250 volunteers from AEON Group, along with partner companies and universities in Hanoi, including 34 students from the university, planted 800 cherry blossom trees here. In addition, approximately 100 volunteers from Mizuho Bank Hanoi Branch also participated, planting 200 cherry blossom trees, bringing the total number of trees planted in Hoa Binh Park this year to 1000.

Over the past period, tree planting activities have been carried out with the participation of a total of 3,550 volunteers from both Vietnam and Japan, and the planted trees have become a symbol of friendship between the two countries.

Sharing his thoughts after the event, Nong Tuan Anh (a student from class K63 Literature) said: “This is a very meaningful activity for Vietnamese students in general, and students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in particular. The activity helped us understand more about the social responsibilities that AEON Group pursues; it helped us become more responsible for protecting the environment in general, so that future generations will continue to preserve this beautiful and vibrant nature. I hope to participate in this activity in the coming years.”
