Hanoi has started implementing the “One Million Trees Program” since 2016, within the framework of social security programs in Hanoi. Responding to this program, with the desire to cooperate to make Hoa Binh Park a famous cherry blossom park loved by local people, AEON Group has planted cherry blossom trees in the park since 2017. This is the third year that students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities have had the opportunity to participate in this event.
This year's tree planting ceremony was pleased to welcome Mr. Nguyen Duc Chung (Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee), Mr. Umeda Kunio (Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Vietnam), Mr. Hayashi Naoki (Director of AEON Environment Foundation), Mr. Yoshida Akio (Vice President of AEON Corporation), Mr. Suzuki Masaki (Chairman of AEON Financial Service Corporation), Mr. Nishitoge Yasuo (Vietnam representative of AEON Corporation).

The cherry blossom trees planted in the park were sown from cherry blossom seeds brought to Vietnam from the Kyushu region of Japan - a region with hot and humid climate conditions similar to the capital Hanoi, thus adapting to the soil conditions of Vietnam. Some trees planted in 2017 and 2018 bloomed during the recent Lunar New Year.
Assessing the good growth of the planted cherry blossom trees, this year, a total of 250 volunteers from AEON Group, partner companies, and universities in Hanoi, including 34 students from the University, planted 800 cherry blossom trees here. In addition, the event also had the participation of about 100 volunteers from Mizuho Bank Hanoi Branch who planted 200 cherry blossom trees, increasing the total number of trees planted at Hoa Binh Park this year to 1,000 trees.
During the past time, tree planting activities were carried out with the participation of a total of 3,550 volunteers from Vietnam and Japan. The rows of trees planted have become symbols of friendship between the two countries.
Sharing his thoughts after the event, Nong Tuan Anh (student of class K63 Literature) shared: “This is a very meaningful activity for Vietnamese students in general, and students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in particular. The activity helps us better understand the social responsibilities that AEON Group pursues; helps us have more responsibility for protecting the environment in general, so that our next young generations will continue to preserve this beautiful and vibrant nature. I hope to participate in this activity in the following years.”
