Receiving the Ambassador of Thailand to Vietnam

Wednesday - February 13, 2019 09:59
On February 12, 2019, Professor Pham Quang Minh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) met with Mr. Tanee Sangrat (Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Thailand to Vietnam). Also present at the meeting were representatives from the Faculty of Oriental Studies and the Office of Cooperation and Development.

During the meeting, Professor Pham Quang Minh introduced the University of Social Sciences and Humanities as a leading research and training institution in social sciences and humanities in Vietnam. The university currently has over 10,000 students and more than 500 staff members. Regarding international cooperation, the university has signed cooperation agreements with over 300 foreign partners, including several Thai partners such as Burapha University, Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat University, and Kasetsart University. Last year, the university launched its first independent Southeast Asian Studies program after separating from the Faculty of Oriental Studies, where Thai is officially taught as a foreign language.

Thai Ambassador to Vietnam Tanee Sangrat stated that expanding people-to-people diplomatic relations, including educational cooperation between Vietnam and Thailand, is one of his priorities during his time here. To serve this goal, the Thai Embassy will provide scholarships for Vietnamese students, promote bilateral student exchanges, and organize exhibitions on Thai higher education. In particular, Mr. Tanee Sangrat invited students from the university to participate in two cultural events organized by the Thai side in May: the coronation ceremony of King Maha Vajiralongkorn (Rama X) at the Thai Embassy headquarters, and an exhibition on tourism and healthcare at Ly Thai To flower garden in Hanoi.

Professor Pham Quang Minh highly appreciated Ambassador Tanee Sangrat's ideas. The Rector also suggested that the Thai Ambassador contact and invite scholars and volunteer teachers from Thailand to lecture and give presentations at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Furthermore, the Rector hoped that the Thai Embassy would act as a bridge to help Thai universities send students to participate in short-term courses organized by the University; and support the promotion of research and training in Thai studies and the Thai language.
