"Talent of K57" - a competition for new students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - was held on September 27, 2012 at the Me Tri Dormitory Cultural Center. The competition was attended by distinguished guests such as Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Duc Nghieu - Vice Rector, Nguyen Hai Minh - Secretary of the Youth Union of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and Mr. Trinh Minh Thai - Secretary of the Youth Union of the University. Representatives from the sponsor, Viettel, were also present. From 7 PM onwards, despite the rain, the auditorium of the cultural center was packed with spectators. Everyone eagerly awaited the contestants' performances. The program featured 15 performances from various faculties: Journalism and Communication, Political Science, Sociology, Oriental Studies, Management Science, Library and Information Science, etc. According to the judges, the quality of the contestants this year was quite consistent, making it difficult to choose an outstanding one. Singing performances were the most popular choice among the freshmen. This year, no contestants participated in the dance talent competition – the talent category that won first prize last year. However, the performances were quite diverse, ranging from traditional folk singing, modern dance, traditional martial arts, flute playing, and even English songs… Although the freshmen were still somewhat shy and reserved, they matured significantly through each round of the competition. They confidently performed on stage, showcasing the unique characteristics of students from the Social Sciences and Humanities in the final night and bringing many emotions to the audience. Ultimately, the awards were: - Gold Medal: Tran Hoang My Linh (Faculty of Journalism and Communication) with the song "Hey, Beautiful Girl". - Silver Medal: Tran Thi Huyen Trang (Faculty of Oriental Studies) with the song "Two Girls of the Upper Mountains". - Bronze Medal: Vu Hong Son (Faculty of Political Science) with traditional martial arts; Vang Thi Vu (Faculty of Management Science) with the song "My Teacher". Also during the final night, Viettel awarded 5 scholarships to 5 students from disadvantaged backgrounds who had been admitted to the university with high scores. This is the second Freshman Talent Search Program organized by the Youth Union and Student Association of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
