During his trip to Hanoi to give a lecture at the Faculty of Linguistics, University of Social Sciences and Humanities - VNU, Dr. Thai Duy Bao, Senior Lecturer at the Australian National University, accepted an invitation to give a presentation at the scientific meeting of the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Language on September 18, 2012 with the topic: "Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Linguistics in Australia".
During his trip to Hanoi to give a lecture at the Faculty of Linguistics, University of Social Sciences and Humanities - VNU, Dr. Thai Duy Bao, Senior Lecturer at the Australian National University, accepted an invitation to give a presentation at the scientific meeting of the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Language on September 18, 2012 with the topic: "Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Linguistics in Australia".This is the first meeting of the new academic year 2012-2013 of the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Language. Many teachers, researchers inside and outside the Faculty, including some retired teachers as well as collaborators of the Faculty were very excited to attend the presentation. During the two hours, Dr. Thai Duy Bao mentioned two important contents: The premises and position of the Vietnamese Studies major in Australia; the problems and solutions for teaching Vietnamese in this country where 1% of the population is of Vietnamese origin. It is known that Vietnamese is one of the 14 languages with the highest number of users and is officially taught in high schools in Australia. The issue of using, teaching and maintaining Vietnamese in the Vietnamese community in Australia is especially interesting to the audience. Dr. Thai Duy Bao said that Vietnamese Studies and teaching Vietnamese is also one of the majors receiving great attention at the Australian National University. The scientific activity took place in an attractive and lively atmosphere. Dr. Thai Duy Bao, together with experts and participants, discussed related issues such as language, history, cultural acculturation... as well as the similarities and differences between the research and teaching of Vietnamese studies and Vietnamese language in Vietnam and Australia in particular and abroad in general. More than 25 years ago, Dr. Thai Duy Bao defended his PhD thesis in Linguistics at the Faculty of Vietnamese, Hanoi National University under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Hoang Trong Phien - Former Head of the Faculty and the late Prof. Bui Phung - Former Head of the Faculty.
