To commemorate the 64th anniversary of the Day of War Invalids and Martyrs (July 27, 1947 - July 27, 2011), on the afternoon of July 26, 2011, a delegation of staff from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Xuan Khang – Standing Committee Member of the Party Committee and Chairman of the University's Trade Union – visited, presented gifts, and interacted with war invalids at the Thuan Thanh War Invalids Rehabilitation Center in Bac Ninh.Visiting and giving gifts to wounded soldiers is an annual activity of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, reflecting the traditional moral principle of "drinking water, remembering the source," and is an opportunity for the university's staff and faculty to express their gratitude and appreciation to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the independence of the nation. At the beginning of the meeting, Comrade Nguyen Khac Du (Party Secretary and Director of the Center) briefly introduced the activities of the Thuan Thanh Rehabilitation Center for Wounded Soldiers. The Center is a unit directly under the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, currently caring for 97 severely wounded soldiers from 23 provinces and cities nationwide. Since its establishment, the Center has received and cared for thousands of wounded soldiers. Many have recovered and returned to their families, but some have passed away due to severe relapses of their wounds and have been honored as martyrs. Currently, the Center has two wounded soldiers from the period of the resistance against the French. Many comrades, due to the effects of injuries causing paralysis or exposure to Agent Orange, rely entirely on doctors, nurses, and family members for all their treatment and daily activities. Nearly 20 comrades who have no wives or children will remain at the treatment center for the rest of their lives. Comrade Nguyen Khac Du expressed his delight that the delegation of officials and lecturers from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities visited, shared, and encouraged the wounded and sick soldiers at the center, and extended his sincere thanks to the Party Committee, the Board of Directors, and all staff members of the university for sending the delegation to visit and encourage the wounded and sick soldiers at the center. On behalf of the University, Associate Professor Dr. Dang Xuan Khang delivered a speech expressing the sentiments, gratitude, and encouragement of the entire staff, faculty, and students of the University to the wounded and sick soldiers receiving treatment at the Center. He shared in their losses and suffering, and encouraged them to overcome their pain and loss, continuing to be exemplary role models for the younger generation to follow. On this occasion, the delegation also presented gifts including 5 million VND and confectionery to the wounded and sick soldiers of the Center. In response to the concern and sharing of the delegation, the wounded and sick soldiers of the Center expressed their joy and emotion, and extended their sincere thanks to the Party Committee, the Board of Directors, and all the staff and faculty of the University. The brief but impressive and moving cultural exchange between the delegation's staff and the wounded and sick soldiers of the Center made the atmosphere in the hall warmer and everyone felt closer to each other. Following the exchange in the auditorium, the delegation from the University visited and presented gifts to encourage severely wounded soldiers receiving on-site treatment in the Center's buildings. Interacting with the wounded and sick soldiers, the delegation members shared a deep impression, feeling sympathy and admiration for the extraordinary spirit and resilience of these brothers and sisters who are "disabled but not defeated." The visit by the University delegation was a great success. The warm handshakes and shared experiences between the delegation members, leaders, and severely wounded and sick soldiers will forever remain beautiful memories in everyone's hearts. Prior to this, the delegation visited Dung Liet commune – where faculty and students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (formerly Hanoi University) were evacuated during the years of the war against the US. On this occasion, the delegation donated over 2,000 notebooks and 20 scholarships (500,000 VND each) to Dung Liet Primary School for students from disadvantaged families and those from difficult circumstances who have overcome challenges to excel in their studies.
