During these July days, joining the activities of “drinking water, remembering its source” of the whole country, the volunteer student team of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Soc Son - Hanoi has had practical activities to celebrate the 64th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27, 1947 - July 27, 2011).On the afternoon of July 26, 2011, representatives of Phu Cuong commune (Soc Son - Hanoi) in collaboration with the volunteer student team of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in the commune visited and presented gifts to families with meritorious services on the occasion of the 64th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day, July 27. Comrade Nguyen Van Xa - Secretary of the commune's Youth Union said: "The whole Soc Son district has 6 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, of which Phu Cuong commune has 3. The number of families with meritorious services and martyrs in the commune is not small." This year, the commune has 18 families with meritorious services receiving gifts on this special anniversary.

Mrs. Nguyen Thi Van (96 years old) and Mrs. Nguyen Thi Chinh (94 years old) are two Vietnamese Heroic Mothers of Thuy Huong village, Phu Cuong commune. Both of them have an only son who sacrificed for the Fatherland. At this "rare" age, the two of them are still healthy and clear-minded, living happily and usefully with their daughter-in-law and grandchildren. Vu Huyen Trang - Captain of the volunteer team of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, on behalf of the whole team, presented gifts to the two of them. The two of them were very touched by the attention of the People's Committee of the commune, the Youth Union and expressed their gratitude to the Party and the Government for creating all conditions for the people to live a prosperous and happy life like today. Also in Thuy Huong village, Mr. Nguyen Van Vung - a 3/4-class disabled veteran, happily said: "Every year, my family is honored to welcome the commune leaders and young people to give gifts. I just hope that the children here will try to study well to be worthy of the sacrifices of the heroic martyrs". Mrs. Nguyen Thi Vinh - 68 years old, mother of martyr Trinh Van Son - advised: "You are in your 20s, daring to sacrifice and contribute to the country is precious and very valuable". Other families with preferential policies expressed their deep gratitude to the government and wished the Volunteer Student Team of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to successfully complete their tasks, bringing the youth and enthusiasm of their twenties to build the Fatherland.

Previously, right from the first days of presence in the locality, many volunteer student groups of the University in the communes also organized labor sessions to clean up the martyrs' cemeteries and prepare for the candle lighting night of gratitude. On the evening of July 26, the People's Committee, Veterans Association, Youth Union of Thanh Xuan, Tan Dan, Minh Tri, Hien Ninh communes coordinated with the Volunteer Student Team of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in the communes to organize a candle lighting ceremony at the local martyrs' cemeteries.

In the solemn and sacred atmosphere of the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Van Loi - Member of the Thanh Xuan Commune Veterans Association - summarized the process of fighting against the invaders of our nation, thereby expressing deep gratitude to those who devoted their youth to the independence and freedom of our country. After the speech of Mr. Nguyen Van Sang - Secretary of the Thanh Xuan Commune Youth Union - 35 volunteer students from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, along with dozens of secretaries and heads of villages, spread out to the cemetery areas to light warm candles on each grave of the martyrs. Only 15 minutes later, the entire cemetery was filled with candlelight, comforting the brave soldiers who had returned to the Motherland. Quynh Chi - K54 International Studies shared: "This is the first time I have participated in this activity. I really feel very choked up and grateful to the heroic martyrs more than ever".
