On June 7, 2012, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Quang Minh (Vice Principal of the school) received and worked with Mr. Tran Ba Tu (Deputy Chief Representative) and Mr. Truong Phuc Hang (First Secretary) of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office. Also receiving the delegation were representatives of the Science Department, Faculty of Oriental Studies, Faculty of Linguistics, Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language.Mr. Tran Ba Tu said: Currently, the Vietnamese community in Taiwan is quite large, ranking fourth in the world. In addition, the development of economic exchanges between the two countries has promoted the need to learn about Vietnamese culture and language in Taiwan. Taiwanese universities are increasingly interested in developing research programs on Vietnam. However, in reality, there are many exchanges between Vietnamese and Taiwanese universities, but the specific cooperation programs realized are not commensurate with the potential. On that basis, the representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office suggested that it is necessary to quickly promote the implementation of more specific and practical cooperation directions, first of all, promoting the exchange of teachers teaching culture and language between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Taiwanese universities. Agreeing with the above viewpoint, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Quang Minh affirmed the interest of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in promoting development cooperation with Taiwanese universities and expressed his hope that "the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office will be an important and effective bridge to develop this cooperative relationship". Associate Professor Dr. Pham Quang Minh also said that the cooperation relationship between the two sides needs to be unified, focused and legalized by official memorandums of understanding. At the meeting, the representative of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities initially made specific proposals to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office such as: being the focal point connecting the University and a number of universities in Taipei interested in researching Vietnam to establish cooperative relations; facilitating the exchange of students and lecturers from both sides; establishing a joint research program between the University and a Taiwanese research institute on economic and social issues of Taiwan and Vietnam that both sides are interested in; Support scholarships for Vietnamese students to study at Taiwanese universities.
