On July 1st, 2008, a delegation from Hyupsung University (South Korea), led by Dr. Moon-Ja Choi (Director), visited and worked at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
Associate Professor Dr. Vu Duc Nghieu (Vice Rector of the University) and Professor Dr. Mai Ngoc Chu (Head of the Faculty of Oriental Studies) received the delegation.
During the meeting, Professor Mai Ngoc Chu gave a brief presentation on the training program in Korean Studies at the university.Department of Oriental StudiesThis is one of nine institutions nationwide that offer Korean language training and one of only two that teach Korean culture. The Faculty has now launched a Master's program in Korean Studies. The Korean Studies Department currently has six lecturers, all of whom received their training in Korea. The professor affirmed that Vietnam is one of the strongest countries in Southeast Asia and Australia in Korean studies. Vietnamese students graduating from Korean Studies programs easily find employment and can make a living from their professional knowledge. Over the past period, along with the continuous development of Vietnam-Korea relations, the Faculty of Oriental Studies in particular and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in general have had increasingly deep cooperation with many universities and organizations in Korea. Most recently, this includes the collaboration with Seoul National University in compiling and translating two advanced Korean language textbooks, "History of Korea" and "Contemporary Korean Society"; and organizing the workshop "Korea and Korean studies from an Asian perspective" will take place in November 2008 in Vietnam, hosted by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities."
[img class="caption" src="images/stories/2008/7/02/p7011964.jpg" border="0" alt="Dr. Moon-Ja Choi (President of Hyupsung University)" title="Dr. Moon-Ja Choi (President of Hyupsung University)" align="left" width="186"/>On behalf of the University, Associate Professor Vu Duc Nghieu expressed admiration for South Korea's achievements in economics, culture, and education over the years; affirming that Vietnam and South Korea share many cultural and historical similarities, thus creating favorable conditions for cooperation between the two sides. The Associate Professor also proposed several suggestions for cooperation between the two sides in the field of Korean studies and social sciences and humanities.
In response, Dr. Moon-Ja Choi also affirmed her desire to cooperate with the University in many fields. In particular, she was especially interested in the potential and prospects for research in Korean Studies and Christianity at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
During the meeting, Dr. Moon-Ja Choi, on behalf of Hyupsung University, awarded scholarships to high-achieving Korean Studies students. This meeting was the first step in exploring and implementing future cooperation plans between the two institutions.
Hyupsung University (South Korea), established in 1977, currently offers undergraduate and graduate programs in the fields of theology, social sciences, business administration, engineering, and arts.
