On November 14, 2017, the Trade Union of the National Academy of Ethnic Minorities (under the National Assembly's Committee for Ethnic Minorities Affairs) organized the "National Academy of Ethnic Minorities Football Tournament 2017" to celebrate Vietnamese Teachers' Day on November 20th. The tournament featured four men's football teams from the following units: the National Academy of Ethnic Minorities, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the Regional Political Academy 1, and the Committee for Ethnic Minorities Affairs.

The University of Social Sciences and Humanities' football team is led by Comrade Nguyen Van Thuy (Vice President of the Trade Union, Vice President of the University's Sports Association) and Comrade Tran Bach Hieu (Secretary of the University's Youth Union). The team consists of 15 athletes who are staff members working in various faculties and the administrative block.

This is the first year the National Academy of Ethnic Minorities has organized a football tournament and has invited many units with strong sports movements to participate. The tournament aims to strengthen exchange and cooperation between units not only in trade union activities and sports activities but also in professional work.

The matches were exciting on the two pitches of the Coma 6 sports complex. The organizers randomly drew two pairs for a knockout tournament; the two winning teams met in the final, while the two losing teams competed for third place.

In the first match, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities team faced the National Academy of Ethnic Minorities team. Despite facing some difficulties, conceding an early goal and playing with ten men at the end of the first half, the players staged a comeback in the second half, winning 2-1 against the National Academy of Ethnic Minorities to advance to the final. In the other match, the Regional Political Academy 1 had to concede their place in the final after losing to the Committee for Ethnic Minorities team.

The match between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the Committee for Ethnic Minorities was very dramatic, with many beautiful plays and skillful ball handling from the players of both teams, making it a truly impressive final match of the tournament. Despite leading 2-0 for almost the entire match, a momentary lapse of concentration from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities team allowed the Committee for Ethnic Minorities team to score two equalizing goals in the final minutes of injury time, sending the two teams to a penalty shootout. In the penalty shootout, the Committee for Ethnic Minorities team brilliantly won 4-2, thus claiming the championship of the 2017 National Academy of Ethnic Minorities Football Tournament.

In the remaining match, the National Academy team defeated the Regional Political Academy team to secure third place overall.

At the end of the tournament, the Organizing Committee awarded prizes to the teams: First prize to the team from the Committee for Ethnic Minorities Affairs, Second prize to the team from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Third prize to the team from the Academy of Ethnic Minorities, and a consolation prize to the team from the Regional Political Academy 1. The Organizing Committee also awarded additional prizes: the oldest athlete award, the best player award, the first goal scorer award, and the best fan award.
