Honoring initiatives for the community and innovations for the Vietnamese Fatherland.

On January 4, 2016, at Vietnam National University, Hanoi, the Editorial Board of the Communist Magazine, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union, and Vietnam National University, Hanoi jointly organized the Award Ceremony for the 2015 Community Initiative Competition and launched the Creative Emulation Movement.

Comrade Nguyen Thien Nhan, member of the Political Bureau and Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, attended and delivered a speech.

Also attending were Mr. Vu Van Phuc – Editor-in-Chief of the Communist Magazine; Mr. Tran Viet Thanh – Deputy Minister of Science and Technology; Mr. Dang Huy Dong – Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment; Mr. Nguyen Phi Long – Secretary of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, President of the Vietnam Youth Union; and the authors/groups of authors participating in the "Innovation for the Community" competition.

Representing VNU Hanoi were VNU Director Phung Xuan Nha, the Deputy Directors, and representatives from the Office, functional departments, and member and affiliated units of VNU Hanoi.

After six months of launching the "Initiatives for the Community" competition, the organizing committee received 177 innovative projects from individuals and groups nationwide in fields such as education, healthcare, transportation, science and technology, tourism, environmental protection, agriculture, and community volunteering. Projects in the cultural and social fields accounted for the largest proportion.

After three rounds of review and scoring, the judging panel decided to award prizes to 11 initiatives, including: 1 First Prize, 2 Second Prizes, 3 Third Prizes, and 5 Consolation Prizes.

According to Vice Rector of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU), Nguyen Huu Duc, with its position as a multidisciplinary center for training, scientific research, and knowledge transfer, VNU has always encouraged and supported creative young talents. He hopes that the scale of the competition will continue to expand, spreading its influence to every member of the Youth Union and young people so that ideas and projects can continue to contribute to community service.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Nguyen Thien Nhan, highly appreciated the effectiveness and social impact of the competition, which not only aims to honor scientists and scientific and technological achievements, disseminate scientific knowledge, but also raise awareness and awaken pride in Vietnamese intelligence. Through this, it contributes to connecting, strengthening, and consolidating national unity for the sustainable development of the nation.

The Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Phung Xuan Nha, presented the awards at the ceremony.

Emphasizing Vietnam's ongoing process of deep integration, Chairman Nguyen Thien Nhan affirmed that Vietnam possesses potential strengths and inexhaustible resources in its 100 million people with their creative capabilities.

Based on the competition results, Chairman Nguyen Thien Nhan suggested that there should be an award for initiatives for the community and innovations for the Vietnamese nation, both to honor initiatives that serve the people at the grassroots level and to help the country take off and move forward.

On this occasion, the Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front calls on all agencies, units, organizations, and businesses in Vietnam, all strata of the people, Vietnamese people living, studying, and working abroad, and foreigners living, studying, and working in Vietnam to continue to practically participate in the "Initiatives for the Community" competition.

Within the framework of the awards ceremony, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Nguyen Thien Nhan, Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi Phung Xuan Nha, and other delegates visited the exhibition of more than 20 booths showcasing typical science and technology products of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and products and ideas that won the "Initiative for the Community" award in 2015.

Later that afternoon, a seminar titled "Initiatives for the Community – Scaling Up and Connecting" was held. Vice-Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Nguyen Huu Duc co-chaired the seminar. During the seminar, the award-winning authors/teams presented their initiatives and proposed solutions for implementing and scaling up their projects.

The first prize in the "Initiatives for the Community 2015" competition went to the Patient Support Program of the Vietnam Young Doctors Association.

Two second prizes were awarded to the project "Safe, Civilized, and Economical Lighting Source" by the Youth Union of Ho Chi Minh City Power Corporation and the research on using extracts of certain plants in controlling fruit-boring insects on cowpeas by the Youth Union of Vo Nhai High School - Thai Nguyen.

Three third prizes were awarded to the following: the 2016 Community Healthcare Program of the Vietnam Young Doctors Association; the Building a Healthy Idol Culture Among Young People program by the FC Vietnam group; and the Agricultural Ambassador Program of Tay Do University - Can Tho.

Five consolation prizes were awarded to the following initiatives: promoting electricity saving and awarding scholarships from saved kWh in the "White Chrysanthemum" program of Lam Dong Radio and Television Station by Lam Dong Power Corporation; thanking people when stopping at red lights by the Red Light group; free swimming lessons in the village pond by the Easy Swimming group; teens love the sea and islands by the CCAD group; and decorating trash cans – protecting the environment by the XaSaDe group.
