On January 20, 2016, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities), along with representatives from the Faculty of Philosophy, the Editorial Board of the Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities, and the Department of External Relations and International Training Cooperation, met and worked with Prof. Ivan Welty (Faculty of Philosophy, Willamette University, USA).

During the meeting, Associate Professor Pham Quang Minh briefly introduced the history of training and research at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, highlighting its position as a leading institution for training in social sciences in Vietnam. The university is strengthening its international standing by promoting training, publishing activities, and especially international relations. Recently, the university launched the Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities. It is planned that six issues will be published in 2016, including two in English. Therefore, the Rector hopes to receive professional contributions from foreign professors such as Professor Ivan Welty to further improve the journal.

Professor Ivan Welty expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome from Associate Professor Pham Quang Minh and the University. Professor Welty will be working at the University from February to June 2016. During this time, Professor Welty will be giving guest lectures, conducting research, and establishing a reference catalog in collaboration with the Philosophy Department. In particular, Professor Welty will collaborate with the Philosophy Department to teach two courses: Introduction to Social Sciences and Humanities and Introduction to Philosophy. The target audience for these courses includes young lecturers and researchers, as well as postgraduate students of the University.

Professor Ivan Welthy works at Willamette University, a private university founded in 1842 in Salem, Oregon, with nearly 2,600 students enrolled. Professor Ivan Welthy is an expert in early analytical philosophy, philosophy of language, logic and mathematics, as well as classical Chinese philosophy.
