Independent life from age 11
At the age of 11, instead of living in the warm embrace of her parents, Trang had to go to school about 30km away from home at Van Yen District Boarding School. Due to inconvenient transportation, Trang could only visit her parents once every 2 months. At this school, Trang was nurtured, guided, cared for, and taught wholeheartedly by teachers. Trang considered this her second home. Thanks to the love and guidance of her homeroom teachers, friends, and especially Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong - the Literature team's exam review teacher, Phung Thi Quynh Trang had the opportunity to study, experience, and practice a lot. Thanks to that, from a skinny, pale 6th grade mountain girl, Trang has developed and achieved many outstanding achievements.

In the first days of moving to the district, Trang was bewildered and worried about everything around her. Originally a girl whose life was closely tied to cinnamon trees and buffaloes, now she had to move to a crowded city, without the care of her parents. In the first weeks, Trang missed home and her parents very much. “There was a time when I came home from school at noon and hid in the dormitory bathroom and cried. Seeing my friends’ parents come to visit me, I also sobbed and my heart felt like it was being squeezed. Then when I heard my mother’s voice through the phone I borrowed from my parents, I couldn’t hold it back anymore, I cried out, wanting to see my mother,” Trang sadly recalled.

Despite the difficulties, Trang overcame all obstacles to become stronger and more mature. Independence helped Trang quickly adapt to the new environment and training routine to begin her journey towards bright goals. “The 4 years of boarding school in Van Yen district were a golden time for me. The shy ethnic girl that I was became a person who dared to try and conquer all competitions. In grade 7, I was lucky to be trusted by my teachers to be the leader of the Youth Union, a representative and a pioneer in studying and following the moral example of Ho Chi Minh for the whole school,” Trang shared.
While participating in district and provincial art programs and scientific research at the district level, Trang was also an excellent student in the school's Literature team. By the 9th grade, with her interest in literature and writing talent, Quynh Trang won second prize in the provincial Literature competition. That was the result of her tireless efforts, always learning and not being afraid of difficulties.
Go to another province to study
Thanks to her efforts and hard work since middle school, Trang has had many outstanding achievements, being selected as one of the 4 students in the district who met the quota to be directly admitted to Viet Bac Highland High School (Thai Nguyen City) - a place 250 km away from her family. At the new school, Trang visited her parents less, only returning to her family during Tet and summer vacation. Due to inconvenient travel, it was difficult for Trang's parents to arrange to visit Trang. Therefore, Trang always told herself to try to be independent, to be self-aware of her life and studies.
At first, Trang felt very sad and lonely in a place where she did not know anyone. “There were times when I was afraid that I would be left behind, that I could not keep up with the other students,” Trang shared. But the situation really trained Trang to become an extremely strong-willed and resilient person. Overcoming all material and spiritual deprivation, Trang still tried hard to study under the guidance of teachers and friends. “Seeing all my friends also come from many other remote provinces, if they can do it, then why can’t I?” Trang firmly stated.

Thanks to that, in 3 years of high school, Trang was an exemplary student in studying with admirable achievements such as: Being one of 142 typical ethnic minority students awarded by the Ethnic Committee and the Ministry of Education in 2022; Being the valedictorian of block C00 of Viet Bac High School; Achieving 30.5 points (including priority points) and passing the Public Relations major of the Institute of Journalism and Communication, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi with an admission score of up to 29.95 points; Grade 12 won first prize in Literature at the provincial level, participating in the National Excellent Student Team; 2 Second prizes in Provincial Literature Competition in grade 11 and beyond grade 12, Third prize in Provincial Literature Competition in grade 10;...
University doors open to many new experiences
Entering university, Trang chose the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi to continue her journey of conquering letters. For Trang, “this is the school I have dreamed of for a long time, the tuition is cheaper than other universities so I can help my parents financially, but the quality of education and training is not inferior to anywhere else”. The opening of the university gate also opened up many opportunities for Quynh Trang to grasp and develop.

The determined ethnic minority girl had to "run around" doing all kinds of jobs to support herself and pay for her studies since the first days she arrived in Hanoi. "My friends told me that when I first came here, I should focus on studying and not work yet, but because I needed money to live, I still did all kinds of jobs from working at a cafe, selling clothes, diapers, planting trees, livestreaming on Tiktok, and mainly tutoring to earn money. There were days when I didn't get home until 12am and started eating, drinking, and bathing," Trang sadly shared.
Despite all the hardships, for Trang, every job she has ever done is a worthwhile experience that she wishes to try. Each job helps Quynh Trang meet respectable people and learn something valuable from them. After tiring working hours, Trang is happy because "I no longer have to ask my parents for money, I can take care of myself."

Living in a cramped, hot rented room of only 20 square meters, Trang still reserved a very “central” place to put her old study table and many stacks of books. For Trang, studying is still the best thing she has chosen.
As a third-year student majoring in journalism, Trang is passionate about writing and dreams of becoming an editor/MC for a TV station. It is a big and clear dream, requiring Trang to really make an effort and constantly seek opportunities. “In middle and high school, I liked writing and in college, that interest gradually turned into journalism. I am truly grateful and appreciative of the seniors in the industry who have helped me have the opportunity to experience writing. I believe that as long as I do not bow my head in the face of failure, everything in this life will blossom again,” Trang shared.
The ethnic minority female student believes: "I am still young, so I will live my life to the fullest. Later, when I look back, I will smile because I did not live in vain." Every day, Trang always looks for opportunities to develop herself and environments to challenge herself. The resilient girl always maintains her enthusiasm and perseverance so that the future will be brighter than what life has arranged.
