At the meeting, Dr. Zhou Ye briefly introduced about Fudan University's Institute of Journalism and Communication. The leading institution specializing in journalism in China, it has 1.600 students, including 200 overseas students. It includes 4 departments, namely Department of Journalism, Department of Advertising, Department of Communication, and Department of Radio-Television; all of which offer doctoral programs. It puts an emphasis on the 2+2 model, in which students study at other faculties at Fujian University in 2 years before coming back to the Institute to complete the remaining subjects. Dr. Zhou Ye said the Institute was offering 20 scholarships for universities under the framework of China's "One belt, one road" policy. He hoped to receive the attention from USSH's students. He believed the similarities between Vietnam and China would help Vietnamese students to quickly integrate into China's academic environment. He also invited USSH's Board of Rectors and staff to visit the Institute in the next year.
On behalf of USSH, Assoc. Prof. Dr Tran Thi Minh Hoa expressed her gratefulness for Dr. Zhou Ye's words and suggestions. She said on May 9th, 2017, USSH welcomed Prof. Sheng Yuan Hua (President of the Center for China's relations with neighboring countries) of Fudan University. To further extend the fields of cooperation, the Vice Rector hoped the two universities would sign an official MOU in the near future.
On behalf of USSH's Faculty of Journalism and Communication, Assoc. Prof. Dr Dang Thi Thu Huong (Dean) shared some information about the Faculty's activities. It is currently one of the two leading institutions that deals with journalism in Vietnam, with programs ranging from bachelor to PhD levels. The Faculty is striving to transform into an Institute of Journalism and Communication focusing on journalism and communication, multi-media, PR-Advertising and communication management. She said the Faculty had cooperated with many Chinese partners and therefore could ensure the Chinese capability of its students. The Faculty would select worthy candidates for the scholarships suggested by the Institute, and wanted to cooperate with it in co-organizing international conferences, carrying out common research projects and publishing international publications.
Established in 1905, Fudan University located in Shanghai is a C9 League university that is one of the most prestigious and selective universities in China. Fudan University comprises 17 full-time schools, 69 departments, 73 bachelor's degree programs, 22 disciplines and 134 sub-disciplines authorized to confer Ph.D. degrees, 201 master's degree programs, 6 professional degree programs, 7 key social science research centers of Ministry of Education P.R.C, 9 national basic science research and training institutes and 25 post-doctoral research stations. It has 40 national key disciplines granted by the Ministry of Education. At present, it has 77 research institutes, 112 cross-disciplinary research institutes and 5 national key laboratories.
