Strengthening cooperation between University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Hanns-Seidel-Stiftung Organization (Germany)

On June 20, 2023, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University (VNU-USSH) hosted a meeting with representatives of Hanns-Seidel-Foundation (Germany) to assess the situation cooperation model, advantages as well as difficulties in implementing cooperation projects in Vietnam.

Attending the meeting were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Thanh Truong - Vice Rector of University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU, representatives of the Department of Cooperation and Development, Faculty of International Studies.

On the side of Hanns-Seidel-Stiftung (HSF - Germany) representative, there were the attendance of Mr. Stefan Burkhardt, South Asia/Southeast Asia Regional Manager of Hanns-Seidel- Foundation e.V. (HSF); Mr. Michael Siegner, Chief Representative of HSF in Vietnam; and Ms. Trinh Ngoc Mai, program director of HSF Vietnam.
At the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Thanh Truong emphasized the success of cooperation between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH - VNU) and the Hanns-Seidel- Foundation. From the end of 2020 until now, the two organizations have jointly compiled and successfully published 05 Vietnam Country Reports and are in the process of researching, implementing and completing report No. 06 this year. Vice President Dao Thanh Truong shared: The University of Social Sciences and Humanities is one of the core members of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU), always leading in the field of research and training in the social sciences and humanities. The university has 01 key research center and 04 strong research groups at VNU level, these are the core research units that make an important contribution to affirming the university's position in scientific and technological research activities and human resources. The University's Institute of Policy and Management (IPAM) is a key research center at VNU level - a academic facility to train policy makers, establish many research and policy development programs for the National Assembly of Vietnam, and guide to the combination of training and research modules. This will be a typical Think tank model in the field of policy and management.

In the working session, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thuy Trang - Faculty of International Studies, project coordinator for the compilation and publication of the National Report on Vietnam shared: The National Report on Vietnam is a compilation of comprehensive and specialized research on social issues of concern in Vietnam, aiming to analyze, identify limitations and make recommendations to policy making and implementing agencies. The focus of the publications revolves around current issues in Vietnam such as population aging, environmental policy, digital transformation, women in Vietnamese society, overcoming the consequences of war... The next number of the report will focus on labor market issues in Vietnam, promising to bring updated research results and useful recommendations, contributing to the construction and improvement of policies in Vietnam.

Representatives of Hanns-Seidel-Stiftung Organization (Germany), Mr. Stefan Burkhardt and Mr. Michael Siegner highly appreciated the results achieved in the cooperation program between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and HSF, and expressed the wishes of strengthening and expanding cooperation activities in the coming time. The working session was conducted based on the consensus on the development direction from the two sides, in which some new ideas were proposed such as the compilation of the summary of the main results from the Country Report, moving towards the possibility of accessing information from a large number of readers such as students, and doctoral students, as well as the desire to develop more scholarship opportunities for students of the USSH in the near future.
