PART I: GENERAL INTRODUCTION TO THE TRAINING PROGRAM

2. Objectives of the training program:

2.1. General Objectives

The Master's program in Film and Television Theory and History is research-oriented, aiming to train highly qualified personnel at the master's level with in-depth knowledge of the art of film and television, focusing on theory and history of film and television. They will possess advanced research skills such as imparting specialized knowledge, discussing scientific issues, and organizing professional activities related to film and television to meet the growing demand for skilled personnel in film and television theory and criticism, as well as in media and promotion of film and television products.

2.2. Specific Objectives

The training program is designed to train master's degree students who possess:

- Specific Objective 1(O1): To provide learners with in-depth knowledge of film and television art research with research directions in film and television theory/theory, film and television history/aesthetics (process, trends, schools, authors, works);

- Specific Objective 2(O2): Develop for learners in-depth skills in research and professional practice such as communication, discussion, mastery of professional knowledge and organization of professional activities related to film and television art;

- Specific Objective 3(O3): To cultivate in learners an attitude of respect for intercultural and interdisciplinary values; a professional and responsible work ethic; an awareness of academic integrity and respect for intellectual property rights.

3. Admission Information

3.1. Admission method:

Admission is based on the regulations of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-Hanoi).

3.2. Eligibility Criteria

3.2.1 Educational Requirements

Applicants must possess a university degree (or equivalent qualification or higher) in a relevant field with a GPA of "Good" or higher, or have published scientific papers related to their field of study or research. If applicants require supplementary courses, these must be completed before applying.

Diplomas issued by foreign educational institutions must undergo the diploma recognition procedures as stipulated in the current regulations of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

3.2.2. Foreign language requirements

- Possess foreign language proficiency meeting the requirements of the training program at Level 3 or higher according to the 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework for Vietnam (in one of seven languages: English, Russian, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, or Korean). Foreign language proficiency can be demonstrated through one of the following diplomas or certificates:

+ A university degree or higher in a foreign language; or a university degree or higher where the program is primarily conducted in a foreign language;

+ A university degree or higher awarded by Vietnam National University, Hanoi, within the last two years, where the program's output meets the requirements of Level 3 or higher according to the 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework for Vietnam;

+ A foreign language proficiency certificate equivalent to level 3 or higher according to the 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework for Vietnam, or equivalent, valid for 2 years from the date of the foreign language exam to the date of registration for the master's program, issued by institutions recognized by the Ministry of Education and Training and Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

- Applicants who are foreign citizens must have a Vietnamese language proficiency level of 4 or higher according to the Vietnamese Language Proficiency Framework for Foreigners, or have graduated from a university (or equivalent qualification or higher) where the training program was taught in Vietnamese; and meet the requirements for a second foreign language as stipulated by the training program (if any).

3.2.3. Other requirements

- Must have a clean personal record, not currently under disciplinary action at the level of a warning or higher, and not currently serving a criminal sentence, as confirmed by the human resources department of the current workplace or the local government where the individual resides.

- I am healthy enough to study.

- Meet other requirements of VNU.

3.3. List of suitable industries

- Fields of study within the same field as the training program;

- The field of study is defined in the training program standards issued by the Ministry of Education and Training;

- For cases where there are no established training program standards for the corresponding field or group of disciplines, the specialized unit must have a scientific and practical basis, determined by the Scientific and Training Council of the specialized unit and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, to identify the discipline with the closest professional foundation to the training program and determine the corresponding supplementary courses (if needed); report to VNU before enrollment and be responsible for this professional evaluation.

3.4. Projected enrollment size

- According to the quota allocated annually by Vietnam National University, Hanoi (expected 20-25 students/year).

- The detailed admission plan is implemented according to the Admission Regulations, the annual postgraduate admission guidelines of VNU, and the unit's admission plan approved by VNU (if any).

PART II: LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE TRAINING PROGRAM

1. Knowledge Output Standards

- PLO1:Analyze theoretical and practical issues in your professional field based on knowledge of philosophical worldview and methodology.

- PLO2:Applying fundamental knowledge of film and television to address issues related to Vietnamese cultural identity through national cinema, the distinctive language of film and television genres, general theories on contemporary film and television research and criticism, and film sociology, in order to apply it to multimedia art and social practice.

- PLO3:Connecting the knowledge systems between contemporary film and television theory and research (such as narrative studies, cultural studies, semiotics, gender studies, ecological and landscape criticism, typology, film script analysis, adaptation/transformation studies) and comparative film and television history at the global and regional levels (such as American cinema, European cinema, Asian cinema, and other indigenous cinemas) from a digital and cross-cultural perspective.

- PLO4:Identify research approaches and methods in the social sciences and humanities, and schools of thought within these fields; formulate an overview of the research problem and determine methods for developing a research proposal.

2. Skill Output Standards

- PLO 5:Evaluate and propose solutions to the problems of Vietnamese cinema, regional cinema, world cinema, and film and television theory in an objective and scientific manner.

- PLO 6:Disseminating knowledge based on research, discussing professional and scientific issues in film and television (teaching, presentations, research presentations, conducting scientific projects/topics, etc.).

- PLO 7:Organize activities related to film and television expertise at the level of independent individual work or teamwork.

- PLO 8:Proficient in information technology and possessing foreign language skills equivalent to level 4/6 according to the 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework for Vietnam in professional and occupational activities.

3. Output standards regarding autonomy and responsibility.

- PLO 9:To draw expert conclusions and guide others in carrying out professional activities related to the film and television industry.

- PLO 10:Improving professional practices in the film and television industry demonstrates a responsible, scientific, and collaborative work ethic; meeting ethical requirements, integrity, and respect for intellectual property rights in scientific research.

4. Job positions that students can take on after graduation.

Graduates of the Master's program in Film and Television Theory and History can assume highly qualified positions at training, research, and production institutions specializing in film and television, art management agencies, art departments of publishing houses and media organizations, and film and television distribution units.

5. Opportunities for further learning and professional development after graduation.

Graduates of the Master's program in Film and Television Theory and History can also continue their doctoral studies domestically in Film and Television Theory and History, Cultural Management, or abroad in relevant fields.
