PART I: GENERAL INTRODUCTION TO THE TRAINING PROGRAM

2. Objectives of the training program
2.1. General Objectives
The Master's program in Journalism and Media Management equips students with a foundation of interdisciplinary knowledge in social sciences and humanities, and provides them with up-to-date, in-depth knowledge, professional skills, and research and innovation capabilities in the field of journalism and media management. The program aims to perfect critical thinking skills, professional practice, and management skills at a high level, enabling students to effectively apply knowledge and professional tools to solve complex problems in journalism and media practice. Simultaneously, the program contributes to the development of professional ethics, social responsibility, and legal compliance, meeting the demands of the journalism and media sector in the context of digital transformation, industrialization, modernization, and international integration.
2.2. Specific Objectives
- Specific Objective 1(O1): A comprehensive training program in interdisciplinary knowledge of social sciences and humanities, systematically and broadly systematizing knowledge of press and media management and modern press and media management methods.
- Specific Objective 2(O2): The training program provides opportunities for learners to practice designing and implementing media research, analyzing and evaluating data and information from diverse sources to apply to practical activities in journalism and media management, organizational, administrative, and decision-making skills, the ability to independently implement a project/plan in the field of journalism and media management, and creatively use technology in their professional field.
- Specific Objective 3(O3): The training program helps learners develop the qualities of a public relations and media management expert, continuously learn and improve their knowledge, and proactively and creatively apply their knowledge and skills to solve practical problems in journalism and media in various work environments.
3. Admission Information
3.1. Admission method:Admission is based on the regulations of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-Hanoi).
3.2. Eligibility Criteria
3.2.1. Educational requirements
- Must have graduated from university or higher (or have an equivalent qualification or higher) in a relevant field. If the candidate needs to take supplementary courses, they must complete them before applying and have at least one year of work experience in the field they are applying for, calculated from the date of their university graduation certificate to the date of the exam.
- Diplomas issued by foreign educational institutions must undergo recognition procedures in accordance with the current regulations of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
3.2.2. Foreign language requirements
Possess a minimum foreign language proficiency level 3 (in one of the following languages: English, Chinese, Russian, German, or French) according to the 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework for Vietnam, or an equivalent level in another foreign language. Foreign language proficiency can be demonstrated by one of the following diplomas or certificates:
- A university degree or higher in a foreign language; or a university degree or higher where the program is primarily conducted in a foreign language;
- A university degree or higher awarded by Vietnam National University, Hanoi, within the last two years, where the program's output meets the requirements of level 3 or higher according to the 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework for Vietnam;
- A foreign language certificate equivalent to level 3 or higher according to the 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework for Vietnam; or equivalent, valid for 2 years from the date of the foreign language exam to the date of registration for the master's program, issued by institutions accepted by the Ministry of Education and Training and Vietnam National University, Hanoi. The head of the training unit or the Rector of the University of Foreign Languages will assess and be responsible for the authenticity of foreign language certificates issued by foreign organizations before recognizing their equivalence.
- Applicants who are foreign citizens and register for master's programs taught in Vietnamese must have a Vietnamese language proficiency level of 4 or higher according to the Vietnamese Language Proficiency Framework for Foreigners, or have graduated from a university (or equivalent qualification or higher) where the training program is taught in Vietnamese; and meet the requirements for a second foreign language as stipulated by the training program (if any).
3.2.3. Other requirements
- A clean personal record, not currently serving a legal penalty at the level of a warning or higher, not currently serving a criminal sentence, as confirmed by the human resources department of the workplace or the local government where the individual resides.
- I am healthy enough to study.
- Meet other conditions (if any) as required by VNU, for each admission year.
- Commitment to fulfilling financial obligations during the training process as stipulated by the training institution.
3.3. List of suitable industries
- This field is in the same group as Public Relations.
- The field of study is defined in the training program standards issued by the Ministry of Education and Training.
- For cases where there are no established training program standards for the corresponding field or group of disciplines, the specialized unit must have a scientific and practical basis, determined by the Scientific and Training Council of the specialized unit and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, to identify the discipline with the closest professional foundation to the training program and determine the corresponding supplementary courses (if needed); report to VNU before enrollment and be responsible for this professional evaluation.
3.4. Projected enrollment size:
- According to the quotas granted annually by Vietnam National University, Hanoi (expected to be 50-60 students per year).
- The detailed admission plan is implemented according to the Admission Regulations, the annual postgraduate admission guidelines of VNU, and the admission scheme of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities approved by VNU (if any).
PART II: LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE TRAINING PROGRAM
1. Knowledge Output Standards
PLO1.Analyze theoretical and practical issues in your professional field based on knowledge of philosophical worldview and methodology.
PLO2.Analyze the interdisciplinary knowledge system in social sciences and humanities, and fundamental knowledge of science and technology, in order to apply it to professional activities in journalism and media.
PLO3.The systematization of practical and theoretical knowledge about journalism and media management aims to effectively apply it to professional activities in a changing context.
2. Skill Output Standards
PLO4.Proficiently combine methods for designing and implementing media research, analyzing data and information from diverse sources, and applying them to the practical operations of journalism and media management.
PLO5.To share specialized knowledge and research findings in scientific discussions and professional exchanges with relevant stakeholders, meeting the requirements of digital transformation and international integration.
PLO6.The organization is authorized to manage press and media activities and independently implement a professional project/plan that creatively applies technology.
PLO7.Proficiently using a foreign language at a level equivalent to level 4 of the 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework for Vietnam (B2 CEFR) to research professional documents, write scientific reports, and present and discuss specialized issues.
3. Output standards regarding autonomy and responsibility.
PLO 8.To provide expert assessments, recommendations, and advice in professional activities or career-related activities applying knowledge of journalism and media management.
PLO 9.Adapting to different work environments through proactive learning and continuous skill improvement, the ability to work independently and mentor others, and the ability to evaluate and improve work quality based on acquired knowledge and skills in journalism, media management, and interdisciplinary fields.
4. Job positions that students can take on after graduation.
Upon graduating from the Master's program in Journalism and Media Management, students possess sufficient in-depth knowledge, professional skills, and management capabilities to work in various agencies and organizations. Job positions that a Master's degree holder in Journalism and Media Management can take on include:
- Management and leadership positions at the department/division level; editors, reporters, and high-level content producers in various types of media and communication units, media and advertising companies;
- Working in the field of public relations and corporate communications as a manager or specialist in charge of communications, building and implementing communication strategies and brand communication for agencies, businesses, and socio-economic organizations;
- Positions in the public sector and socio-political organizations, participation in information, press, policy communication and external information work at ministries, departments, localities and related organizations, working in international organizations, non-governmental organizations;
- Research and teaching activities in the field of journalism and communication at universities, colleges, institutes, and research centers.
5. Opportunities for further learning and professional development after graduation.
After graduating with a Master's degree in Journalism and Media Management, students are fully capable of continuing their studies and research at higher levels (according to state regulations) in specialized fields related to journalism and media, participating in training courses related to journalism and media to enhance their knowledge and professional skills, and engaging in research, writing, and publishing scientific articles. Graduates with a Master's degree in Journalism and Media Management have many opportunities for career development through study, research, and participation in other journalism and media activities.
