2. Objectives of the training program
2.1. General Objectives
The Master's program in Anthropology aims to perfect foundational knowledge and methodology, and in-depth skills in the social sciences and humanities, as well as anthropology. It also provides in-depth and broad knowledge of theoretical trends and research methods to enhance research capabilities, critical thinking, and academic integrity, meeting the demand for high-quality human resources in anthropology. Students will apply interdisciplinary and specialized knowledge, along with AI technology, to analyze and solve academic problems, and to apply this knowledge to their professional activities and personal development. Upon graduation, students will be responsible for disseminating knowledge and serving the community, adapting quickly to intercultural environments, and effectively applying their knowledge to lifelong learning and personal development.
2.2. Specific Objectives
- Specific Objective 1(O1): To perfect interdisciplinary and specialized methodological knowledge, update in-depth and modern theories and research methods of Anthropology to enhance the research, creativity and application capacity in professional activities of learners. Based on this, learners apply Anthropological knowledge and digital knowledge to analyze and evaluate in-depth research issues such as culture, politics, society, environment, ethnicity, religion, gender, economics, development and urbanization in the context of socio-cultural change and digital transformation. At the same time, learners develop the ability to master knowledge in scientific research, consulting, teaching and disseminating knowledge on issues related to human beings from the perspective of Anthropology and interdisciplinary social sciences and humanities.
- Specific Objective 2(O2): Learners will enhance their in-depth skills to become professional, modern anthropologists with critical thinking in academic and professional practice, including the use of foreign languages, the application of technology and artificial intelligence to conduct research, exchange scientific knowledge, and effectively communicate knowledge while ensuring academic integrity in the context of globalization and digital transformation. Simultaneously, learners will master the skills to design and implement research topics or projects that meet scientific standards and contribute to the sustainable development of the community and society.
- Specific Objective 3(O3): Learners develop the capacity for self-reliance and self-responsibility in their stance and viewpoints within the academic and professional environment, adhere to professional ethical standards, develop the qualities of a modern anthropologist, possess high adaptability in diverse academic and professional environments, have an attitude of respect for diversity and differences in culture, religion and ethnicity, thereby enhancing their sense of responsibility to the community and society; develop the capacity for lifelong learning and further study at the doctoral level.
3. Admission Information
3.1. Admission methodsAdmission is based on the regulations of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-Hanoi).
3.2. Eligibility Criteria
3.2.1. Educational requirements
- Candidates must possess a university degree (or equivalent qualification or higher) in a relevant field with a GPA of "good" or higher, or have published scientific papers related to their field of study or research. If candidates require supplementary courses, these must be completed before applying.
- Diplomas issued by foreign educational institutions must undergo recognition procedures in accordance with the current regulations of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
3.2.2. Foreign language requirements
- Possess foreign language proficiency (in one of the following languages: English, Russian, French, German, Chinese, Japanese) meeting the requirements of the training program at level 3 or higher according to the 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework for Vietnam. Foreign language proficiency can be demonstrated through one of the following diplomas or certificates:
+ A university degree or higher in a foreign language; or a university degree or higher where the program is primarily conducted in a foreign language;
+ A university degree or higher awarded by Vietnam National University, Hanoi, within the last two years, where the program's output meets the requirements of level 3 or higher according to the 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework for Vietnam;
+ A foreign language proficiency certificate equivalent to level 3 or higher according to the 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework for Vietnam, or equivalent, valid for 2 years from the date of the foreign language exam to the date of registration for the master's program, issued by institutions recognized by the Ministry of Education and Training and Vietnam National University, Hanoi. The Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities or the Rector of the University of Foreign Languages will assess and be responsible for the authenticity of foreign language certificates issued by foreign organizations before recognizing their equivalence.
- Applicants who are foreign citizens must have a Vietnamese language proficiency level of 4 or higher according to the Vietnamese Language Proficiency Framework for Foreigners, or have graduated from a university (or equivalent qualification or higher) where the training program was taught in Vietnamese; and meet the requirements for a second foreign language as stipulated by the training program (if any).
3.2.3. Other requirements
- Has a clean personal record and is not currently under criminal investigation.
- I am healthy enough to study.
- Meet other requirements of VNU.
3.3. List of suitable industries
- This field is in the same group as Anthropology.
- The field of study is defined in the training program standards issued by the Ministry of Education and Training.
- For cases where there are no established training program standards for the corresponding field or group of disciplines, the specialized unit must have a scientific and practical basis, determined by the Scientific and Training Council of the specialized unit and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, to identify the discipline with the closest professional foundation to the training program and determine the corresponding supplementary courses (if needed); report to VNU before enrollment and be responsible for this professional evaluation.
3.4. Projected enrollment size
- According to the quotas granted annually by Vietnam National University, Hanoi (expected to be 10-15 students per year).
- The detailed admission plan is implemented according to the Admission Regulations, the annual postgraduate admission guidelines of VNU, and the unit's admission plan approved by VNU (if any).
PART II: LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE TRAINING PROGRAM
Upon completing the Master's program in Anthropology, students will be able to:
1. Knowledge Output Standards
PLO 01:To analyze theoretical and practical issues related to human beings and the research subjects of Anthropology on the basis of interdisciplinary science and the Marxist-Leninist philosophical methodology;
PLO 02:The systematization of fundamental knowledge regarding methodology, in-depth and up-to-date theories in Anthropology and interdisciplinary fields aims to apply this knowledge to the research and professional activities of learners.
PLO 03:To evaluate fundamental research topics and related anthropological perspectives and theories in order to effectively apply them in researching theoretical and practical issues concerning human beings, culture, economics, society, and development in Vietnam and around the world;
2. Skill Output Standards
PLO 04:To use a foreign language proficiently at a minimum level 4 according to the 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework for Vietnam effectively in scientific research and professional activities;
PLO 05:The design involves a complete scientific research project or solution from an anthropological perspective, meeting scientific standards to enhance social critical thinking skills and contribute to the sustainable development of the community and society.
PLO 06:Combining critical thinking, specialized knowledge in Anthropology, and interdisciplinary skills in professional activities to undertake various tasks such as teaching, scientific research, policy consulting, and economic and social development;
PLO 07:Coordinate the application of academic writing skills, public speaking skills, foreign language proficiency, and technical tools, including AI, to effectively exploit, process materials, and communicate knowledge in research, teaching, and professional activities.

PLO 08:To cultivate the professional qualities of an anthropologist, develop critical social thinking, adhere to professional ethical standards and social norms, and be responsible for imparting knowledge to serve the community and society;

PLO 10:Proactively organize your own learning and professional development process to master knowledge and adapt quickly to changes in the academic, professional, and social environment.
4. Job positions that students can take on after graduation.
Group 1: Research and teaching in the field of Anthropology in particular, and social sciences in general, concerning human beings, culture, ethnicity, and socio-economic development.
Group 2: Officials working in Party and State government agencies, mass organizations, international and non-governmental organizations, and other socio-political organizations who need to use anthropological knowledge, anthropological approaches and research methods, etc.
Group 3: Officials and managers holding positions in cultural preservation and development in communities, museums, tourist areas, nature reserves, libraries, etc.
Group 4: Anthropology consultants, practitioners, and practitioners capable of (a) organizing, managing, supervising, and practicing policy application work, such as policy planning, policy implementation, and policy monitoring; (b) conducting policy research and consulting, such as policy research, impact assessment, needs assessment, ethnographic fieldwork, community development, social development, and cultural preservation; (c) managing and operating research and application programs/projects related to anthropological knowledge, approaches, and research methods; (d) providing organizational management consulting and building organizational culture for public and private institutions.
