2. Objectives of the training program
2.1. General Objectives
The research-oriented training program aims to cultivate high-quality human resources at the master's level in Sino-Vietnamese studies, meeting the requirements for research and professional practice in Sino-Vietnamese studies such as collecting and interpreting Sino-Vietnamese texts; exploiting the cultural and historical values preserved and reflected in the Sino-Vietnamese heritage, contributing to the building of an advanced Vietnamese culture rich in national identity, and ensuring cultural continuity between tradition and modernity.
2.2. Specific Objectives
- Specific Objective 1(O1): To complete for learners in-depth knowledge of Sino-Vietnamese texts as well as culture and specialized theories.
- Specific Objective 2(O2): Develop for learners in-depth skills in Sino-Vietnamese studies such as interpreting, analyzing, and exploiting the values contained in various types of Sino-Vietnamese texts; the ability to communicate and discuss specialized knowledge and organize professional activities related to Sino-Vietnamese studies.
- Specific Objective 3(O3): To foster in learners a spirit of initiative, responsibility, professional ethics and civic consciousness; an attitude of respect for traditional values; professional and responsible work; respect for scientific standards and humanistic values.
3. Admission Information
3.1. Admission method:Admission is based on the regulations of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-Hanoi).
3.2. Eligibility Criteria:
3.2.1 Educational Requirements
- Candidates must possess a university degree (or equivalent qualification or higher) in a relevant field with a GPA of "good" or higher, or have published scientific papers related to their field of study or research. If candidates require supplementary courses, these must be completed before applying.
- Diplomas issued by foreign educational institutions must undergo the diploma recognition procedures as stipulated in the current regulations of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
3.2.2. Foreign language requirements
- Possess foreign language proficiency (in one of the following languages: Chinese or English) meeting the requirements of the training program at level 3 or higher according to the 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework for Vietnam. Foreign language proficiency can be demonstrated through one of the following diplomas or certificates:
+ A university degree or higher in a foreign language; or a university degree or higher where the program is primarily conducted in a foreign language;
+ A university degree or higher awarded by Vietnam National University, Hanoi, within the last two years, where the program's output meets the requirements of Level 3 or higher according to the 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework for Vietnam;
+ A foreign language proficiency certificate equivalent to level 3 or higher according to the 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework for Vietnam, or equivalent, valid for 2 years from the date of the foreign language exam to the date of registration for the master's program, issued by institutions recognized by the Ministry of Education and Training and VNU. The head of the training unit or the Rector of the University of Foreign Languages will assess and be responsible for the authenticity of foreign language certificates issued by foreign organizations before recognizing their equivalence.
- Applicants who are foreign citizens and register for master's degree programs taught in Vietnamese must have a Vietnamese language proficiency level of 4 or higher according to the Vietnamese Language Proficiency Framework for Foreigners, or have graduated from a university (or equivalent qualification or higher) where the training program is taught in Vietnamese.
3.2.3. Other requirements
- Must have a clean personal record, not currently under disciplinary action at the level of a warning or higher, and not currently serving a criminal sentence, as confirmed by the human resources department of their current workplace or the local government where they reside. - Must be in good health to study.
- Meet other requirements of VNU.
3.3. List of suitable fields of study:
- The field of Sino-Vietnamese studies;
- The field of study is defined in the training program standards issued by the Ministry of Education and Training;
- For cases where there are no established training program standards for the corresponding field or group of disciplines, the specialized unit must have a scientific and practical basis, determined by the Scientific and Training Council of the specialized unit and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, to identify the discipline with the closest professional foundation to the training program and determine the corresponding supplementary courses (if needed); report to VNU before enrollment and be responsible for this professional evaluation.
3.4. Projected enrollment size
- According to the quota allocated annually by Vietnam National University, Hanoi (expected 10 students/year).
- The detailed admission plan will be implemented in accordance with the Admission Regulations, the annual postgraduate admission guidelines of VNU, and the admission information of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities approved by VNU (if any).
PART II: LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE TRAINING PROGRAM
1. Knowledge Output Standards
- PLO 01:Analyze theoretical and practical issues in your professional field based on knowledge of philosophical worldview and methodology.
- PLO 02:Applying interdisciplinary knowledge of linguistics, culture, ideology, text types, etc., to the study and research of Sino-Vietnamese studies.
- PLO 03:This involves analyzing textual issues and the main content of Chinese classical texts (Confucian classics, Buddhist classics; the Hundred Schools of Thought, etc.) through the study of texts and excerpts from original classics that highlight key themes and reflect the connections between those texts and historical and cultural issues.
- PLO 04:Analyze the development and characteristics of Vietnamese classical Chinese literature through different periods.
- PLO 05:The systematization of basic knowledge about Nôm script and Nôm texts in relation to the historical stages of Vietnamese development in terms of phonetics, vocabulary, and grammar.
- PLO 06:To be able to apply the meaning and value of basic research approaches, theories, and methods in the social sciences and humanities; to form an overview of the research problem and to identify methods for constructing a research outline.
2. Skill Output Standards
- PLO 07:Transliteration, translation, and annotation of Sino-Vietnamese texts.
- PLO 08:This involves combining research methods and techniques for analyzing Sino-Vietnamese texts; methods and techniques for exploiting linguistic and textual elements that constitute Sino-Vietnamese texts (internal Sino-Vietnamese elements) as well as elements belonging to the historical, social, cultural, and cultural aspects of the texts that are preserved and reflected through those linguistic and textual elements (external Sino-Vietnamese elements).
- PLO 09:Combine various forms of academic writing, presentations, and technical means, including information technology, to effectively convey knowledge in academic and professional environments; effectively apply information technology in professional and vocational activities.
- PLO 10:Proficient in organizational, leadership, and teamwork skills, and effective communication in academic and professional environments.
- PLO 11:Able to use a foreign language at a minimum level equivalent to level 4 according to the 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework for Vietnam.
3. Output standards regarding autonomy and responsibility.
- PLO 12:Developing a firm political awareness, a sense of responsibility, professional ethics, and civic consciousness; respect for scientific norms, humanistic values, and diversity of thought; appreciation for traditional values; independent judgment and responsible professional decision-making in complex situations.
- PLO 13:Actively organize one's own learning and professional development process, adapt quickly to academic and professional environments, be able to guide others in performing tasks related to Sino-Vietnamese studies, and take responsibility for one's professional conclusions and decisions.

- Conduct research and teach Sino-Vietnamese studies and literature in research institutes, universities and colleges, vocational schools and high schools.
- Working in specialized roles within cultural management and professional agencies, and in socio-economic organizations.
- Working in media, press, news, and publishing agencies at the central and local levels.
- Performing professional work in archives, libraries, museums, translation, interpretation of ancient Sino-Vietnamese texts, and consulting on the restoration and preservation of historical and cultural relics.

5. Opportunities for further learning and professional development after graduation.
After graduation, those with a Master's degree in Sino-Vietnamese Studies are capable of directly participating in research and teaching activities; engaging in practical work; and can continue their studies at the doctoral level.
