2. Objectives of the training program
The goal is to train students with modern and in-depth professional knowledge, interdisciplinary thinking, independent research skills, and the capacity to organize research in Vietnamese studies. It also aims to cultivate critical thinking, professional ethics, and strong political convictions, thereby forming a pioneering generation of human resources ready to effectively serve Vietnam's development and integration strategy in the international arena.
- Specific Objective 1(O1): Aims to perfect knowledge and enhance research capacity in core areas of Vietnamese studies such as: history, culture, society, geography, economics, political institutions, literature, art, religion, Vietnamese linguistics, rural and urban areas, along with methods of teaching Vietnamese as a foreign language... Knowledge is approached in an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary manner, creating conditions for learners to develop systemic thinking, critical thinking and logical reasoning abilities, and innovation to solve in-depth academic and practical problems about Vietnam and its people.
- Specific Objective 2(O2): Develop professional and supplementary skills, including: the ability to organize and conduct research activities in groups and independently; the ability to effectively use modern research approaches and tools to collect, analyze, and process data in the field of Vietnamese Studies. Simultaneously, cultivate foreign language proficiency and skills in using digital technology and artificial intelligence for research, ensuring adaptability and integration, aligning with the mission, vision, and development strategy of the training institution; the development needs of society; the goals of higher education according to the Law on Higher Education and the corresponding qualification descriptions in the Vietnamese National Qualifications Framework.
- Specific Objective 3(O3): Learners are capable of independent, creative, critical thinking and proactively orienting their professional activities flexibly in complex situations. Their knowledge and skills can be applied to participate in policy planning, program development, or professional consulting in fields such as cultural management, education, socio-economic development, tourism, investment, cultural diplomacy, media, and people-to-people diplomacy. The program aims to form a workforce in these fields, researchers, and educators with professional ethics, social responsibility, and lifelong learning capacity, meeting the needs of employers and stakeholders, and contributing to the development of high-level intellectual human resources for the country in the context of international integration.
3. Admission Information
3.1. Admission method:Admission is based on the regulations of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-Hanoi).
3.2. Eligibility Criteria
3.2.1. Regarding qualifications
- Candidates must possess a university degree in a relevant field with a GPA of "good" or higher, or have published scientific papers related to Vietnamese Studies; in cases where candidates are required to take supplementary courses, they must complete them before applying, as per regulations.
- University degrees awarded by foreign educational institutions must undergo the degree recognition procedure in accordance with the current regulations of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
3.2.2. Regarding foreign language proficiency
- Possess foreign language proficiency (in one of the following languages: English, German, French, Chinese, Japanese, Korean) at level 3 or higher according to the 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework for Vietnam. Foreign language proficiency can be demonstrated by one of the following diplomas or certificates:
+ A university degree or higher in a foreign language; or a university degree or higher where the program is primarily conducted in a foreign language;
+ A university degree or higher awarded by Vietnam National University, Hanoi, within the last two years, where the program's output meets the requirements of level 3 or higher according to the 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework for Vietnam;
+ A foreign language certificate equivalent to level 3 or higher according to the 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework for Vietnam, or equivalent, valid for 2 years from the date of the foreign language exam to the date of registration for the master's entrance exam, issued by institutions recognized by the Ministry of Education and Training and Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
- Applicants who are foreign citizens must have a Vietnamese language proficiency level of 4/6 or higher according to the Vietnamese Language Proficiency Framework for Foreigners, or have graduated from a university (or equivalent qualification or higher) where the training program was taught in Vietnamese; and meet the requirements for a second foreign language as stipulated by the training program (if any).
3.2.3. Other conditions
- Has a clean personal record and is not currently under criminal investigation.
- I am healthy enough to study.
- Meet other requirements of VNU.
3.3. List of suitable industries
- This field is in the same group as Vietnamese Studies.
- The field of study is defined in the training program standards issued by the Ministry of Education and Training.
- For cases where there are no established training program standards for the corresponding field or group of disciplines, the specialized unit must have a scientific and practical basis, determined by the Scientific and Training Council of the specialized unit and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, to identify the discipline with the closest professional foundation to the training program and determine the corresponding supplementary courses (if needed); report to VNU before enrollment and be responsible for this professional evaluation.
3.4. Projected enrollment size
- Based on the quotas allocated annually by Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
- The detailed admission plan is implemented according to the Admission Regulations, the annual postgraduate admission guidelines of VNU, and the unit's admission plan approved by VNU (if any).
PART II. LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE TRAINING PROGRAM
1. Knowledge Output Standards
PLO 1:Analyze theoretical and practical issues in the field of Vietnamese studies based on knowledge of philosophical worldview and methodology.
PLO 2:To explain the phenomena, concepts, and laws of development of Vietnamese studies as a coherent knowledge system, based on an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approach.
PLO 3:To apply the meaning and value of fundamental approaches, theories, and research methods in the social sciences and humanities to propose new research directions or solutions to specialized problems in Vietnamese studies.
PLO 4:Complete a comprehensive scientific research proposal and finalize a research paper under expert guidance to address in-depth issues in the field of Vietnamese studies, integrating information from diverse sources.
PLO 5:Develop professional activities or projects in the field of Vietnamese Studies, demonstrating effective coordination and management skills.
PLO 6:Combine soft skills, digital capabilities, artificial intelligence tools, and expertise to conduct field surveys, collect and process data, and write research papers.
PLO 7:Use a foreign language equivalent to level 4 according to the 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework for Vietnam to support learning and research in a multicultural environment.
3. Output standards regarding the level of autonomy and responsibility
PLO 8:Identify and address issues in Vietnamese studies, and propose valuable initiatives.
PLO 9:Strictly adhere to the principles of professional ethics, scientific integrity, and intellectual property regulations in all academic and research activities.

After graduating from the Master's program in Vietnamese Studies, students can use the knowledge and skills acquired to participate in and assume various positions:
- Undertake professional tasks related to various fields of social sciences, with particular expertise in jobs requiring comprehensive, interdisciplinary research capabilities.
- Teaching and conducting research in various fields and modules within the Vietnamese Studies curriculum at colleges, universities, academies, and research institutes nationwide.
- To become a specialist, analyst, and consultant on issues related to Vietnam and its people; on policies and development potential in culture, society, economy, tourism, investment, environment, etc., at departments, offices, and agencies nationwide, as well as companies, organizations, non-governmental organizations, and international organizations.
- Undertaking professional activities such as: teaching Vietnamese, guiding tourists, editing, working in publishing at press and media agencies, publishing houses, and agencies within the political system...
- There is a chance to enhance professional skills and specialized knowledge when working in economic, social, and cultural organizations that have relations between Vietnam and other countries.
- Capable of researching and teaching Vietnamese Studies, Vietnamese Language, and Vietnamese Culture at universities and colleges in Vietnam and other countries around the world.
- There is an opportunity to continue studying at the doctoral level in Vietnamese Studies at universities and research institutes in Vietnam and other countries around the world (if available).
