11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis:
This dissertation is the first scientific work in Vietnam to study India's foreign policy towards Southeast Asia during the period 1947-1964, focusing on key issues such as the basis and theory of policy formation, the content (objectives and principles) of the policy, the process of policy implementation and policy response, results and impacts, characteristics and relationships of the policy in the current period (1991-2017).
Unlike previous studies in Vietnam, this thesis employs both idealist and realist approaches to explain India's foreign policy towards Southeast Asia during the period 1947-1964. By applying both approaches, the thesis identifies and demonstrates the consistent principles and implementation of India's foreign policy towards Southeast Asia throughout each period.
12. Practical applications:
As a systematic study of India's foreign policy toward Southeast Asia during the period 1947-1964, this dissertation serves as a reference for research and teaching in Southeast Asian studies, Indian studies, international studies, and history.
In the current context, the Asia-Pacific region in general, and ASEAN in particular, holds a central role in India's Look East Policy and Act East. Understanding and interpreting India's foreign policy towards Southeast Asia during the period 1947-1964, as a foundational period for India's modern relationship with the region, will contribute to strengthening and promoting mutual understanding between Southeast Asia and India, as well as between Vietnam and India.
Furthermore, highlighting the continuous connection and consistency in the principles of foreign policy implementation across different periods, from ancient times, the 1947-1964 period, to the modern period (1991-2017), will be one of the bases for policymakers in Southeast Asia in general, and Vietnam in particular, to formulate guidelines and policies appropriate to the reality of Southeast Asia-India relations.
13. Future research directions:
+ India's foreign policy towards Southeast Asia in the period after 1964
+ The Chinese Factor in India's Foreign Policy Towards Southeast Asia
India's foreign policy towards Vietnam from 1947 to the present.

11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis:
The thesis is the first research in Vietnam which focuses on India's foreign policy towards Southeast Asia in the period of 1947-1964 in terms of theoretical and realistic foundations of the policy, the contents (goals and principles), the process of implementation, the responses by Southeast Asian countries, results and impacts, characteristics and the relationship between the policy in the period of 1947-1964 and the following periods (1991-2017).
The thesis is different from other works by applying both the approaches of idealism and realism to explain India's foreign policy towards Southeast Asia in the period of 1947-1964. Thanks to these, it discovers and demonstrates the footprint and consistence of the principle to carry out India's foreign policy towards Southeast Asia since its independence.

The thesis is the systematic research on India's foreign policy towards Southeast Asia in the period of 1947-1964. Therefore, it is one of meaningful references for the research fields such as Southeast Asian Studies, Indian Studies, International Relations and Historical Studies.
At present, Asian Pacific in general and ASEAN in particular is playing as the central role of India's Look East Policy and Act East Policy. By studying India's foreign policy towards Southeast Asia in the period of 1947-1964 as the background period of India's relations with Southeast Asia in the contemporary period, the thesis helps enhance the mutual understanding, between Southeast Asia and India as well as Vietnam and India.
In addition to these, exploring the relationship and the consistence of the principle to implement India's foreign policy through periods of ancient times, the period of 1947-1964, and contemporary period is one of the foundations for decision makers in both Southeast Asian countries in general and Vietnam in particular to make policies which are more suitable and effective for relations between Southeast Asian countries and India.
