- This dissertation has synthesized and introduced several research concepts on satirical art, providing a theoretical foundation for examining William Thackeray's novels. It reveals the philosophical depth and the philosophical meaning of the humor that the writer inherited and developed from the satirical tradition of 18th-century English literature. His satirical laughter is not influenced by folk humor, but rather possesses the characteristic intellectual, academic, and erudite style, making it witty, humorous, subtle, and profoundly insightful.
- Thackeray's satirical art is not merely a formal technique; it becomes the writer's dominant artistic thinking, strongly influencing the way he constructs his novels, creating a unique satirical tone and a distinct way of reflecting reality. A comparison with contemporary realist writers highlights Thackeray's difference: a realist writer with a satirical undertone.
- The novelist's innovative techniques give his novels a modern look and a profound democratic spirit. Thackeray creates a game within the novel, fostering a communicative environment and dialogue between author and reader. He plays with genre, blending various genres and artistic styles to create a narrator who engages in experiential dialogue with the reader. This breaks the monotony of the narrator, eliminates the monotony of tone and point of view in the work, and creates a democratic way of engaging with the reader. The author gives the reader their own perspective, stimulating their intellect, critical thinking, and expanding their understanding.
- Through satire, Thackeray also demonstrated a spirit of demystification toward the Victorian era, which demanded strict adherence to its rigid framework. He shattered the beliefs about socio-psychological moral standards and aesthetic tastes of Victorian readers, changing the old values and morals within Victorian society, a society that was implicitly assumed to have established the standard values for human beings.
