This study systematizes the theoretical and practical aspects of promoting the role of lecturers in reforming the teaching of political theory subjects in Vietnamese universities and colleges, including the following main points:
The firstTeaching in general, and teaching political theory in particular, is not simply the teacher's influence on students as previously conceived, but rather the conditioned influence of the lecturer on the system of knowledge in political theory subjects within a specific educational environment, at a particular historical period, with the participation of students relevant to a specific field of study. Through this, the knowledge of political theory subjects influences and re-influences students with the aim of helping them understand that knowledge system and develop a dialectical materialist worldview and methodology to serve their studies in specialized subjects and their own lives.

Second, in teaching innovation of political theory courses, the leading role of lecturers is to create, research and propose innovative purposes, contents, organizational forms of teaching and assessment; as the key element to assess the results of content innovationprograms.
