Summary of thesis results: Topic "Marriage customs of ethnic groups across the Vietnam-China border. This thesis has, to some extent, outlined the issue of marriage among ethnic minorities, represented by the Nung (Vietnam) - Zhuang (China) and Dao (Vietnam) - Dao (China) groups. First, the thesis partially clarifies what cross-border ethnic groups are, what marriage customs are, and what characteristics identify cross-border ethnic groups and their marriage customs. The thesis uses these "standards" as a "reference point" to understand the marriage customs of cross-border ethnic groups between Vietnam and China. The analysis of marriage customs focuses on two ethnic groups: Nung-Zhuang and Dao-Dao, examining characteristics such as: marriage age, scope of intermarriage, marriage age, principles of residence in marriage, and wedding rituals. These analyses, placed in comparison with each other, create a relatively complete picture of the marriage customs of cross-border ethnic groups between Vietnam and China. It is through this study of the marriage customs of cross-border ethnic groups between Vietnam and China that we... The study observes both differences and similarities in marriage customs among ethnic groups. These similarities stem from a combination of factors such as natural conditions, living environments, lifestyles, and the historical influence of Han culture. A particularly significant aspect is the shared ancient historical origin of these ethnic groups, which, in this analysis, is the Bai Yue (Hundred Yue) people. Over time, due to social changes, droughts, wars, and diseases, these ethnic groups migrated and separated into different groups. This has created the Vietnam-China border cultural region, which possesses both the unique cultural essence of each ethnic group and the fundamental cultural characteristics specific to each community.

However, in recent times, the processes of industrialization, modernization, and internationalization have significantly impacted the lives of ethnic groups in general, and the cross-border ethnic groups between Vietnam and China in particular. This impact has led to changes in the marriage customs of these ethnic groups. While these changes have many positive aspects, such as improved education levels, increased respect for the right to freedom of marriage, and a reduction in outdated customs, it is also necessary to minimize limitations and shortcomings such as cultural dilution and the loss of valuable traditional values. To achieve this, the thesis also proposes several recommendations to improve the lives of ethnic minorities, preserve traditional cultural identities, and enhance cultural exchange to contribute to the preservation and promotion of the cultures of the cross-border ethnic groups between Vietnam and China.
