The thesis consists of three chapters: Chapter 1: Studying Vietnamese novels in the renovation period and Le Luu's contributions to the novel genre; Chapter 2: Studying character types in Le Luu's novels in the renovation period. The thesis presents four main character types: Tragic characters, degenerate characters, two-faced characters and lonely, unfortunate characters; Chapter 3: Studying the art of character building in Le Luu's novels.

The thesis has provided a systematic view of character types in Le Luu's novels during the renovation period through research and understanding of the author's character world and character building art.

The thesis has deeply analyzed the novelty in the concept as well as the novel art of Le Luu when portraying characters. From there, it affirms the talent and contributions of the author to national literature in general and contemporary Vietnamese literature in particular.
