Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dinh Duc, Prof. Dr. Pham Hung Viet, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tu Binh Minh and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Hoang Son (pictured from left to right) Four scientists from Vietnam National University, Hanoi, continue to be ranked highly in the world and lead Vietnam in three fields in 2023: Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dinh Duc - in the field of Engineering and Technology; two professors, Prof. Dr. Pham Hung Viet and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tu Binh Minh - in the field of Environmental Science; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Hoang Son - in the field of Information Technology.
Regarding Research.com's ranking methodology, the evaluation system is based on the scientist's D-index – which is the H-index – and the number of publications by field for scientists in the IEEE, ACL, Springer, AAAI, USENIX, Elsevier, ACM, and LIPIcs databases. For this ranking, Research.com considered data from 166,880 scientists with the highest publication and citation output worldwide.
Research.com divides into 24 areas for ranking, which are: Animail Science and Veterinary; Biology and Biochemistry; Business and Maanagement; Chemistry; Computer Science; Earth Science; Ecology and Evolution; Economics and Finance; Electronics and Electrical Engineering; Engineering and Technology; Environmental Sciences; Genetics and Molecular Biology; Immunology; Law and Political Science; Mathematics; Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering; Medicine; Microbiology and Neuroscience.
In these 24 fields, 14 Vietnamese scientists (an increase of 3 compared to last year) were recognized in 6 fields in the Research.com rankings: Engineering Technology, Environmental Science, Computer Science, Materials Science, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, and Community Medicine and Social Sciences.
Interestingly, the ranked Vietnamese scientists all come from universities and are leaders of strong research groups. Hanoi National University leads the way, with four scientists ranked globally in all three fields: Engineering Technology, Environmental Science, and Computer Science.
These statistics reflect the progress, efforts, and continuous integration of Vietnamese scientists in the fields where Vietnam is recognized on the world's scientific map.
At the same time, it also shows that Vietnamese science and technology must continue to strive even harder. More investment is needed in scientists, strong research groups, universities, and key areas of focus, so that Vietnamese science and technology can increasingly advance, approach international standards and levels, integrate more strongly, and stand shoulder to shoulder with the world's science.
