At the meeting, Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan - Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities shared: The University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU has the mission of being a pioneer in training high-quality, highly qualified human resources; researching, creating and disseminating knowledge about social sciences and humanities - always promoting and promoting research cooperation and implementing development projects with partners and scientific agencies at home and abroad, attracting international experts and scientists to lecture, give scientific presentations, attend seminars and carry out research activities.
Currently, international integration is playing a strong role as a trend of the school, especially in the post-Covid-19 recovery period, which is a time to promote cooperation with international universities, ensuring the effectiveness of cooperation and mutual benefits. The University of Social Sciences and Humanities is also well aware of the dynamic changes of today's youth, requiring teaching programs to be highly practical and updated promptly with trends. On this basis, the school has been implementing many new lecture and subject orientations, in line with international standards such as Entrepreneurship or creating opportunities for students to have internships and exchanges at academic institutions and international organizations in many countries around the world. The seminar “Economic transformation in Ireland” promises to bring new perspectives and knowledge to students, not only about the Irish economy, but also about the factors affecting the global economy and the solutions and questions raised for the Vietnamese economy.

At the meeting, the two sides discussed and reached a common consensus on cooperation and co-organization of seminars between Irish universities and VNU – USSH, student and lecturer exchanges between the two countries as well as designing study programs with highly applicable subjects in the current context of the job market in Vietnam - Ireland and around the world.
Professor Alan Barrett - Director of the Irish Institute for Economic and Social Research expressed his desire to continue cooperation with VNU - USSH and affirmed: Economy and Society always go hand in hand.
Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan - Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities thanked the professor for his contributions to the school in the past and looked forward to future achievements.

With the same orientation of interdisciplinary training and sharing many common points in education and research, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities is always one of the top destinations chosen by prestigious speakers. With a long history of cooperation between VNU – USSH and universities in Ireland, the Embassy of Ireland will continue to be a bridge, bringing USSH – VNU closer to potential partners in Ireland. The Irish Government is committed to enhancing capacity in Vietnam and facilitating links between organizations in Ireland and Vietnam in the field of education as well as other fields such as economic management and agriculture.

The panel discussion “Economic Transformation in Ireland” is an overview of the European Union and its member economies, providing valuable insights into Ireland’s economic transformation from a small, agricultural-based economy to a developed country with a strong focus on modern services, foreign direct investment and education. The talk delves into Ireland’s successful transition from an industrialized country to a services-oriented economy, and draws some lessons for other economies.
Professor Alan Barrett and more than 660 students from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities had a successful discussion with questions and active discussions about the situation and changes in the Irish economy, the influencing factors, applications in Vietnam as well as the Vietnam - Ireland strategic partnership.

Professor Alan Barrett is the Executive Director of the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI), Ireland’s leading centre for policy-oriented social science research. He is an accomplished economist with a PhD from the University of Michigan in the United States. He is a recognised expert in his field and regularly contributes to discussions on economic issues, being quoted in prestigious publications such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and The Economist.
