Attending the meeting, on the side of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities were Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan - Rector of the university and representatives from the Department of Cooperation and Development.
Representing Vietnam National University, Hanoi was Dr. Nguyen Thi Anh Thu - Head of the Cooperation and Development Department.
The guests included Ms. Deirdre Ní Fhallúin - Ambassador of Ireland to Vietnam; Mr. Conor Finn - Deputy Head of the Embassy Delegation; Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong - Advisor on Bilateral Relations; and Professor Alan Barrett - Director of the Irish Institute for Economic and Social Research.
During the meeting, Professor Hoang Anh Tuan, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, shared: The University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, has the mission of leading in training high-quality, highly skilled human resources; researching, creating, and disseminating knowledge in social sciences and humanities - always prioritizing and promoting research cooperation and project development with partners and scientific agencies at home and abroad, attracting international experts and scientists to lecture, present scientific papers, attend conferences, and conduct research activities.
Currently, international integration is playing a strong role as a trend for the university, especially during the post-Covid-19 recovery period, a time when cooperation with international universities needs to be promoted to ensure effectiveness and mutual benefit. The University of Social Sciences and Humanities is also well aware of the dynamic changes in today's youth, requiring teaching programs to be highly practical and up-to-date with current trends. Based on this, the university has been implementing many new lecture and course orientations, aligning with international standards, such as the Entrepreneurship course, and creating opportunities for students to intern and exchange at academic institutions and international organizations in many countries around the world. The seminar "Transformation in the Irish Economy" promises to provide students with new perspectives and knowledge, not only about the Irish economy, but also about the influencing factors on the global economy and the solutions and questions raised for the Vietnamese economy.

During the meeting, both sides exchanged views and reached a common agreement on linking and co-organizing seminars between Irish universities and VNU-USSH, exchanging students and lecturers between the two countries, and designing study programs with subjects that are highly applicable to the current job market in Vietnam, Ireland, and around the world.
Professor Alan Barrett, Director of the Irish Institute for Economic and Social Research, expressed his desire to continue cooperating with VNU-USSH and affirmed that economics and society always go hand in hand.
Professor Hoang Anh Tuan, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, thanked the professor for his past contributions to the university and looked forward to future achievements.
Ambassador Deirdre Ní Fhallúin of Ireland to Vietnam stated that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has always been one of the top choices for prestigious speakers.
At the seminar, Ms. Deirdre Ní Fhallúin, Ambassador of Ireland to Vietnam, stated: "Ireland places great importance on higher education, and I am pleased to say that the cooperation between Irish and Vietnamese higher education institutions continues to be strong, including with the Vietnam National University and its member universities. The University of Social Sciences and Humanities is a long-standing and reputable partner of many universities in Ireland. With a shared interdisciplinary training orientation and many commonalities in education and research, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities is always a top choice for prestigious speakers." With a long history of achievements in cooperation between VNU – USSH and universities in Ireland, the Irish Embassy will continue to act as a bridge, bringing USSH – VNU closer to potential partners in Ireland. The Irish Government is committed to enhancing capacity in Vietnam and facilitating linkages between organizations in Ireland and Vietnam in the field of education as well as other areas such as economic management and agriculture.

The seminar “The Economic Transformation in Ireland” offered an overview of the European Union and the economies of its members, presenting valuable insights into Ireland’s economic transformation from a small, agri-based economy to a developed nation strongly focused on modern services, foreign direct investment, and education. The discussion delved deeper into Ireland’s successful transition from an industrialized nation to a service-oriented one, drawing lessons for other economies.
Professor Alan Barrett and over 660 students from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities had a successful seminar with positive questions and exchanges about the situation and changes in the Irish economy, influencing factors, applications in Vietnam, as well as the Vietnam-Ireland strategic partnership.

Professor Alan Barrett is the Executive Director of the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI), a leading center in Ireland for policy-oriented social science research. He is an accomplished economist with a PhD from the University of Michigan in the United States. He is a recognized expert in his field and regularly contributes to discussions on economic issues, cited in prestigious publications such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Economist.
