University of Social Sciences and Humanities contributes 7 topics to the National Key Program

On October 19, 2021, the Office of State-level Key Programs, Department of Social Affairs, Humanities and Nature under the Ministry of Science and Technology held a conference to summarize the KX.01/16-20 Program in person and online, connecting with bridges at a number of research institutes and universities across the country. The University of Social Sciences and Humanities is one of the bridges at the Conference chaired by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Thanh Truong (Vice Rector of the University).

The conference aims to summarize and comprehensively evaluate the achievements of the KX.01/16-20 Program in solving urgent issues on the development of Vietnam's economy, society, culture and people as well as the management and implementation in the recent period. At the same time, it aims to exchange and discuss expert opinions on the direction of activities for the Program in the next period.

The KX.01/16-20 Program is a key state-level science and technology program "Research on important issues in social sciences and humanities serving socio-economic development" managed by the Ministry of Science and Technology, implemented from 2016 to 2020. The program integrates 4 research pillars in the field of social sciences and humanities on economics, society, culture and people. After 5 years of implementation, 52 topics of the Program have achieved many remarkable results in applied products, serving the development and completion of policies and guidelines of the Party and State as well as domestic and international publications, contributing to the training of hundreds of doctoral students, graduate students, and improving the research capacity of thousands of researchers nationwide.

The conference is held in a combination of in-person and online formats.

As a member of the Program, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities contributed 07 research topics with high application value and achieved encouraging results. 03 topics achieved Excellent, 04 topics were reclassified as Achieved, 63 scientific reports of all kinds, 05 international articles, 39 domestic articles, 08 monographs (including 01 monograph published by the prestigious SPRINGER Publishing House), and at the same time supported the training of 35 masters and 11 doctors, demonstrating the connection between research and training.

In particular, the 07 tasks of the School have had 10 policy recommendations sent to central agencies, ministries, departments and branches such as the National Assembly, the Central Theoretical Council, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Education and Training as well as used as a basis for building development strategies for many localities, associations, enterprises, universities and research institutes.

Speaking at the bridge of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Thanh Truong re-emphasized the need to further enhance the role of Social Sciences and Humanities in creating a scientific basis and arguments for the Party's guidelines and policies and the State's policies. For the field of Social Sciences and Humanities to develop, there needs to be innovation in thinking in training and research in this field. From an international perspective, two researchers Eric Neumayer and Charles Joly have commented on the necessity of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts in implementing sustainable development goals. The main challenges posed when transitioning to a "zero-carbon economy" are the social aspects of technology.

   Thereby, the Vice President expressed his hope that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities will become a focal point, creating an environment for individuals and research organizations in the field of Social Sciences and Humanities to connect and develop. Currently, the University has 08 strong research groups that play a fundamental role in creating connections and sustainable, long-term development in Social Sciences and Humanities. In the near future, the University will implement a number of key research ideas related to "Research on the development of Vietnamese Social Sciences and Humanities in the digital transformation era to serve international integration and national development in the period of 2021-2030" including:
  1. Developing Vietnam's digital social sciences and humanities to adapt to digital transformation to serve national goals associated with policy consulting and international integration;
  2. Research and promote social resources corresponding to economic resources in key economic regions to enhance cultural values ​​and the strength of Vietnamese people in the cause of comprehensive and sustainable development;
  3. Research on building an ecosystem for international publications, creating breakthrough growth in the quantity and quality of international publications in social sciences and humanities, bringing Vietnam into the top 3 in international publications in the field of social sciences and humanities in the ASEAN region and top 10 in Asia by 2030.
