This year's celebration of the 43rd anniversary of Vietnamese Teachers' Day on November 20th at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities is truly special, blending with the proud atmosphere of the 80th anniversary of the Faculty of Literature (1945-2025), the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (1995-2025), and the awarding of the First Class Labor Medal.
An 80-year tradition of "Culture - Modernity - Enlightenment"
The celebration of the 80th anniversary of the school's tradition and 30th anniversary was honored to welcome leaders of the Party and State, representatives of leaders from central ministries, departments and agencies, provinces and cities, and a large number of leaders, staff, lecturers, and students from all generations of the school.
At the commemorative ceremony, on behalf of the Government and the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long extended his warmest congratulations to all generations of teachers, staff, and students of the school.
Comrade Le Thanh Long emphasized that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, is a higher education institution with a long history; the birthplace of many of Vietnam's first modern social sciences and humanities disciplines, creating a foundation for the development of other disciplines, and gradually affirming its position in academic life domestically, regionally, and globally.
Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long extended his warmest congratulations to all generations of teachers, staff, and students of the school.
Eighty years ago, just days after the victory of the August Revolution in 1945, the Faculty of Literature – the predecessor of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi – was established. Over its 80 years of formation and development, under various names, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has traversed a unique historical journey, closely intertwined with the historical periods of the nation.
During the arduous years of the resistance war, alongside imparting valuable knowledge amidst bombs and bullets, many lecturers of the School bravely and resolutely volunteered to go to the front lines with their own blood; many students also temporarily set aside their studies and took up arms to answer the call of the nation.
In the current period of national construction and development, many generations of students from the University have matured and succeeded in various fields, making important contributions to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland. In particular, Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong, former General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, is also an alumnus of the University's Faculty of Literature. This is a source of pride, affirming the University's role in education and training, as well as in building a strategic cadre of the Party and the State.

In his speech at the commemoration ceremony, Professor Hoang Anh Tuan, the school's Rector, stated that on October 10, 2025, Comrade To Lam, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, sent a congratulatory letter to the school's staff, employees, and students on the occasion of its 80th anniversary and 30th anniversary.
The General Secretary expressed his confidence and expectation that, “with the philosophy of culture, modernity, and openness, and the spirit of innovation, the University will continue to develop breakthroughs, combining tradition and innovation, culture and the times, academia and integration, excellence and the masses; by 2030, some fields of social sciences and humanities of the University will be ranked among the top 150 universities in Asia.” The General Secretary also wished the University “to continue to be a school of intellect, humanity, and aspiration; a place that nurtures talent, creates knowledge, contributes to building the foundation of Vietnamese culture and people, and spreads the good values ​​of the nation to the world.”

The General Secretary's directives and belief in the school's success are a great encouragement for the teachers and students to focus on innovation and breakthrough development in the coming period. Rector Hoang Anh Tuan affirmed that, closely adhering to the Politburo's strategic resolutions, the Government's action program, and the overall plan of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, the school is preparing to issue its Development Strategy to 2035 - vision 2045, focusing initially on five key tasks.
This involves accelerating the restructuring of the organizational apparatus towards a lean, efficient, and powerful system, perfecting a modern digital university governance system, promoting the internationalization of training and research activities… making the University a leading, advanced, and socially responsible research university, aiming to have some training fields ranked among the top 150 in the continent by 2030. It also includes breakthroughs in developing the faculty, attracting talent, nurturing outstanding leading experts, building a community of elite lecturers, a team of skilled and dedicated management staff, and professional and service-oriented administrative personnel.
Strongly adjust the planning and development of training program structures towards multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, cross-disciplinary, internationalization, and basic science as a foundation for applied science… thereby providing a highly qualified workforce and talented individuals in the social sciences and humanities for the country in the new era. Continue to promote international publications in harmony with national publications, implement key long-term scientific programs with clusters of outstanding scientific products, continue to aim for prestigious national and international scientific awards, and provide top-level policy advice to the central and local governments. Develop a financial strategy consistent with university autonomy; develop harmoniously the inner city space and the Hoa Lac campus to expand the development potential for the University.

The achievements the school has made in recent years are the result of the sense of responsibility, creativity, and innovation of generations of teachers and students, as well as the enthusiastic support from the Party and State leaders, relevant agencies, and partners.
