With its significance in providing experiences, exploration, and serving as a bridge to spread the cultural identities of nations around the world, the International Cultural Festival has become a "brand" and a cultural playground, creating opportunities for exchange, learning, and connection between Vietnamese and international students.
Understanding and connecting different cultures and languages will bring about harmony in the soul. These are precisely the values that the faculty and staff of the Department of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language are quietly cultivating through generations of international students who have trusted and chosen the Department of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, as their place to study and experience a different language and culture, aiming towards a "borderless learning environment for Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language."
The International Cultural Festival is the most anticipated annual event for all faculty and students, both international and Vietnamese, as the new year approaches. Activities at the festival aim to foster connection and spread, creating an atmosphere of friendship and solidarity between international and Vietnamese students, between the university and its students, and serving as a cultural bridge between modernity and tradition. Overcoming geographical and linguistic barriers, students join hands to sing songs and dance about their love for their homeland, immersing themselves in the multinational musical atmosphere of the festival.
This is an exciting and rewarding platform for every international and Vietnamese student studying and researching at the Faculty of Vietnamese Language and Literature to showcase the unique cultural characteristics of their country, nation, and homeland, experience new cultures, expand their network of relationships, build friendships, and improve their Vietnamese language skills.
The students have truly become cultural ambassadors, introducing and promoting the unique cultural characteristics of their nation to friends, teachers, and interested individuals. Through this international cultural festival, the students have had the opportunity to explore, experience, and understand different cultures in a spirit of respect and sharing, while also fostering empathy, inspiring the learning of Vietnamese, expanding their networks, building friendships, and gaining a deeper understanding of Vietnamese culture, country, and people.
Over 400 Vietnamese and international students in 12 exhibition booths brought to life a culinary culture, showcasing distinctive dishes from European countries (Germany, Poland, Russia, Ukraine, France, etc.), Asian countries (Japan, China, South Korea), as well as famous dishes from the USA, Cuba, and more than 10 traditional Vietnamese dishes prepared by students from four undergraduate Vietnamese Studies programs.
Besides the culinary program, considered the biggest "specialty" of the festival, the 2023 International Cultural Festival also organized fun and meaningful activities such as: a fruit platter arrangement competition, bamboo pole dancing, fashion shows, etc. Before kicking off the "Cultural Odyssey" Gala, Vietnamese undergraduate students from the Faculty presented a special recycled fashion show focusing on ecology and human life, calligraphy (handled by foreign students),...
The cultural program, themed "Cultural Odyssey," featuring multinational performances showcasing the cultural spaces of various regions in Vietnam and countries around the world, attracted significant attention from both international and Vietnamese students, leaving a lasting positive impression on each of them.
The Multinational Cultural Exchange Festival not only creates a valuable platform for international students but also contributes to bringing world culture closer to Vietnam and spreading Vietnamese culture and identity to the world, further strengthening friendly cooperative relations between Vietnam and international friends.
