According to students majoring in Sino-Vietnamese studies, choosing to study this traditional field was the right decision, fostering in them a love and passion for classical research.
Speaking to a VTV1 reporter, Dr. Dinh Thanh Hieu, Head of the Department of Han Nom Studies, Faculty of Literature, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, said: “Behind the study of Han and Nom characters, students are introduced to and research the foundation of knowledge and scholarship that is an integral part of ‘Literature - History - Philosophy inseparable.’” Students of Sino-Vietnamese studies at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities have access to, understand, and interpret the universal culture of the ancients, thereby conveying it to contemporary life. The knowledge that students acquire in Chinese characters and Nom script has very high applicability in modern life. Many students of Chinese and Nom script at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities are proficient in two foreign languages: English and Chinese. Many job opportunities are available for students.Han Nom studiesat research institutes, universities, organizations, and businesses both domestically and internationally. Student Kieu Phuong Nhung - K65 majoring in Sino-Vietnamese Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, shared: “As students majoring in Sino-Vietnamese Studies, we are nurtured with a love for ancient culture and a passion for researching traditional culture, as well as the ability to write and use foreign languages to apply to our work.” Each year, the Sino-Vietnamese Studies program attracts hundreds of students. Graduates are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to approach and process Sino-Vietnamese texts, both from a textual perspective and in interpreting and analyzing them, contributing to the development of an advanced Vietnamese culture rich in national identity in the context of international integration and exchange. Currently, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, offers a program in Sino-Vietnamese Studies at all three levels: Bachelor, Master, and Doctorate. In addition to scholarships for students in basic science programs, students and trainees of Sino-Vietnamese Studies also have many opportunities to study abroad (China, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Europe, America, etc.) with a wide range of scholarships available.
