Dr. Tran Bach Hieu (35 years old, deputy head of the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Political Science, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU Hanoi) is one of 75 teachers to receive the first "Outstanding Young Teacher" award from the Central Youth Union. Over the past 12 years, the young teacher has always surprised students with interesting political lectures.
Dry only when the teacher is dry
The young teacher "revealed" that each lesson is always "softened", turning seemingly dry political and theoretical knowledge into something closer to life, in line with the spirit of young people. He rarely gets bogged down in "classic" and heavy stories.
"12 years is not enough time to decide everything, but I have thoughts and experience in teaching. Also, my students are of different ages such as 8X, 9X or 2K generation. When conveying to you, the amount of information needs to be updated regularly, the method changes for each subject" - Dr. Hieu shared.
In each political lecture, not only is it adjusted according to age but also according to each subject, for example, it is impossible to teach one lecture to students of humanities, natural sciences, technology, and engineering. Mr. Hieu always gives examples according to each field of study, from applied political theory lectures to the fields and future careers of each student.
The young teacher believes that if the subjects with knowledge of political theory and Marxism-Leninism, Ho Chi Minh thought, and Party history are taught well and vividly, it will help students a lot in their worldview, in recognizing and solving problems as well as applying them in future work, building ambitions and ideals for themselves.
Recalling the early 8X and 9X generations, teacher Tran Bach Hieu said that the most difficult thing is that today's young generation only reads through the online world, is influenced by stories of life, the Internet or changing information.
"Teachers must always be aware of how to keep their knowledge from becoming outdated and always update themselves with the huge amount of information. I think it would be boring for an individual to tell the same story over and over again, so each class always has a "cuff" that is suitable for the audience. I always incorporate current events, practical stories, even following the "trends" of young people into the knowledge of political subjects" - Dr. Tran Bach Hieu said.
He added: "Do not bring the previous teaching method to the 2K generation, do not bring the teaching method of 10 years ago to today's generation". Therefore, there must be adjustments in each lesson, how to still convey information and knowledge of political theory to students in the most effective way.
Besides the lively transformation of lectures, the most important thing is to create interaction between teachers and students, creating an open atmosphere in the classroom. Mr. Hieu shared that the greatest joy is seeing students eagerly waiting for his class. On the contrary, he also looks forward to the class to meet and impart political knowledge to students, knowledge that everyone previously thought was boring, but now becomes more interesting, lively, and effective in class.
