Attending the welcoming ceremony, on behalf of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong, Vice Rector of the University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Trinh Cam Lan (Head of the Department of Linguistics), Dr. Bui Van Tuan (Deputy Head of the Department of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language), representatives from the Center for Chinese Studies, the Center for Foreign Languages and Training Cooperation, the Department of Cooperation and Development, and the Department of Politics and Student Affairs.
Representing the Chinese universities were Dr. Zeng Qian, Vice President of the Institute of International Foreign Languages and Cultures, Yunnan University of Finance and Economics; and faculty members representing the universities whose students will participate in the 2023-2024 courses.
Notably, the matriculation ceremony was attended by 220 students from 16 prestigious universities in China.
In her welcoming remarks, Associate Professor Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong extended her warmest greetings and best wishes to all the Chinese faculty and students present at the ceremony.
You come from many different universities but share a common love and passion for exploring the Vietnamese language and culture. Thank you for choosing the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to realize that passion. You have every right to be proud of the training institution you have chosen, because the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has a long tradition and holds a leading position in Vietnam in the field of social sciences and humanities.
Currently, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has effective cooperation relationships with more than 300 universities, educational organizations, and research institutes worldwide. Every year, we welcome a large number of international students from over 20 countries, including the United States, Canada, Australia, Russia, South Korea, Japan, China, Laos, and Thailand, to study and exchange academic knowledge. To date, many of them have served as ambassadors, advisors, or diplomatic and cultural staff of various countries in Vietnam.
2023 marks the 15th anniversary of Vietnam and China becoming comprehensive strategic partners. Therefore, the close and effective cooperation between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Chinese universities not only provides students with opportunities to study abroad but also contributes to strengthening the friendship between the two countries. All the students present here will become bridges of peaceful culture, ambassadors promoting the cultures of Vietnam and China.
On behalf of the school's leadership, Associate Professor Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong extended her most sincere thanks to the teachers from Chinese schools who dedicated their valuable time to travel thousands of kilometers to accompany our students to our school.
Speaking at the ceremony, Associate Professor Dr. Trinh Cam Lan, on behalf of the leadership and all the teachers of the Faculty of Linguistics, extended a warm welcome and thanked the students for trusting and choosing the University of Social Sciences and Humanities as their place of study and life experience in Vietnam.
The Head of the Linguistics Department affirmed: During their time studying here, students will be immersed in Vietnamese culture, seeing, hearing, and experiencing Vietnamese culture and life, witnessing firsthand things they previously only knew through books, newspapers, or stories from teachers and older students. Although the time may not be very long, it will certainly be a very meaningful period and a beautiful memory during their four years of university. We are honored to accompany them during their studies here, as well as later when they have the opportunity to study or visit our country.
With her rich and fluent Vietnamese language skills, Chu Tuyet Phuong (a student from the Vietnamese Language Department, Guangxi University), representing the students attending the 2023-2024 course, expressed her emotion at being so thoughtfully, enthusiastically, and warmly welcomed by the school's administration and teachers.
Student Chu Tuyet Phuong shared: "Choosing and studying Vietnamese was a matter of 'destiny' for me. Even though I later had the valuable opportunity to change majors, I still chose Vietnamese to accompany me on this path. Before coming here, I, like many other Chinese students, was already familiar with the reputation of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in teaching Vietnamese to foreigners, and in training and researching Vietnamese culture. Therefore, we will cherish this opportunity to understand as much as possible about the Vietnamese language, the country, and the people of Vietnam. Whether during our time studying here or after returning to our country, we will definitely become a bridge of friendship between China and Vietnam, contributing to promoting culture and enriching the good relationship between our two brotherly countries."
