Attending the meeting were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Thanh Truong - Vice Rector of the university, representatives from the Cooperation and Development Department, Faculty of Psychology, University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
During the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Thanh Truong shared the development goals of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU Hanoi, towards becoming a research university, continuing to affirm its leading position in research and training in social sciences and humanities in Vietnam, striving to be among the top 150 universities in Asia by 2025, among the top 100 universities in the continent by 2035, and on par with advanced universities (among the top 500) in the world. The university promotes research cooperation and development projects with partners and scientific agencies both domestically and internationally, attracting international experts and scientists to lecture, present scientific papers, attend conferences, and conduct research activities.
Highly appreciating the achievements and scientific prestige of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU, Professor Dominique Laffly proposed inviting VNU-USSH to participate in Erasmus+ projects on faculty exchange and capacity building for VNU-USSH lecturers. In addition, Professor Dominique Laffly introduced several French scholarship programs for postgraduate students and researchers of the university, and discussed scientific and technological cooperation through scholarships for students, researchers, and lecturers in the social sciences and humanities. During the meeting, Professor Dominique Laffly provided some advice on the Vietnamica project, which VNU-USSH has been implementing since 2019.
Before concluding her term as Attaché for Scientific and University Cooperation this coming August, Professor Dominique Laffly pledged to continue bridging the gap between French universities and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU Hanoi in particular, and with universities in Vietnam in general.
Respecting the affection and respect that Professor Dominique Laffly has shown towards the scientists of VNU-USSH in particular and the university in general, Associate Professor Dr. Dao Thanh Truong hopes that the university will continue to receive the cooperation, support, and assistance of French scientists to serve as a scientific bridge between VNU-USSH and major organizations and universities in France.
Previously, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU Hanoi, had welcomed many international scientists for guest lectures and research collaborations, including many scientists from France. Since 2019, VNU-USSH has been one of the three pillar members of
Vietnamica ProjectThe project on historical research and digitization of Vietnamese stelae (funded by the European Research Council - ERC) attracted many domestic and international scientists. Professor Philippe Papin, a Vietnam Studies expert at the French Institute for Advanced Studies (EPHE), led the project, which was supported by the French Embassy in Vietnam and relevant agencies from both countries. He worked in Vietnam under the auspices of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities from January 2023 to the end of 2024. The project's goal was to analyze and process rubbings of thousands of stelae erected in Vietnamese villages from the 16th to the 20th centuries. These stelae, inscribed with both Chinese and Nom characters, have opened up new prospects for sketching the history of religion, beliefs, economy, and social structure in rural Vietnam. In addition to in-depth historical research, including monographs on offerings related to village shrines, the Vietnamica Project also focuses on processing all transcribed stelae using digital humanities technology.
Within the framework of the project, in addition to the research and publication activities of the lecturers, approximately 10 students and doctoral candidates in the fields of Sino-Vietnamese Studies, Archaeology, History, etc., received Vietnamica scholarships (over 100 million VND/student) to study at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
