The funding agreement was signed within the framework of the international development assistance policy of the Government of the Republic of Bulgaria. Accordingly, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria provided 61,402 Bulgarian Lev (BGN) (equivalent to more than 30,000 EURO) to the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU to implement the project "Enhancing the quality of foreign language learning through modernizing foreign language teaching tools". The project lasts for 24 months from March 1, 2020 to March 1, 2022. The project is chaired by Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thi Minh Hoa and has the participation of experts and researchers from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU and Veliko Tarnovo University, Sofia University (Bulgaria). The goal of the project is to revise and update the Bulgarian-Vietnamese Dictionary (published in 1984) into a more modern, scientific publication in the present era.
Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh and Ms. Marinela Milcheva Petkova exchanged the minutes of agreement
On behalf of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh expressed his honor when the University became the host of a project of great significance to the long-standing traditional relationship between Vietnam and Bulgaria. Especially in the context of the two countries celebrating the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations (February 8, 1950-2020). The University itself has also established relations with a number of universities on the other side such as Sofia University, St. Cyril University and St. Methodius Veliko Tarnovo University. With a team of leading Vietnamese language experts, the University is committed to making every effort to successfully implement the project and complete the new Vietnamese-Bulgarian dictionary.
On behalf of the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Vietnam, Ms. Marinela Milcheva Petkova highly appreciated the idea of implementing the cooperation project between the USSH and Bulgarian universities. She believed that the project would not only help improve the research, teaching and training capacity of Bulgarian language for lecturers and researchers of the two countries but also contribute to the bilateral educational relationship between Vietnam and Bulgaria in general. She also affirmed her commitment to supporting any projects and cooperation programs between the school and Bulgarian educational partners in the future.
Prof. Dr. People's Teacher Le Quang Thiem shares about the process of compiling the first edition of the Bulgarian-Vietnamese Dictionary and the time living and studying in the neighboring country.
At the signing ceremony, Vietnamese professors and linguistic experts also shared their thoughts and feelings about this event as well as the bilateral relations between the two countries. They expressed their belief that the new dictionary edition will effectively support the learning and teaching of Bulgarian, aiming to promote multi-disciplinary cooperation between the two countries.
