Domestic and international cooperation: A driving force for breakthrough development.

International and domestic cooperation are considered the main driving forces behind the breakthrough in developing resources to serve the development of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) into a research university meeting international standards. Therefore, in recent years, this work at VNU has always been emphasized and has achieved many successes.

Improve the quality and effectiveness of cooperation with domestic partners.

Collaboration between universities, the government, local authorities, and businesses is currently a common and inevitable trend, receiving special attention from countries around the world. Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) has implemented numerous training, research, and technology transfer activities for central and local agencies and businesses. With this model, VNU leverages its multidisciplinary strengths and implements many beneficial activities for local communities.

Over the past period, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) has established several strategic partnerships, including: the Central Theoretical Council; the Central Propaganda Department; the Central Economic Department; the Government Office; the Ministry of Science and Technology; Hanoi City; Da Nang; Nghe An; Ninh Binh; Quang Ninh; Thai Binh; 14 provinces in the Northwest Region; Hoa Lac High-Tech Park; Voice of Vietnam Radio; Vietnam News Agency; Vietnam National Petroleum Corporation; Viettel Group; Vingroup; BIDV Bank; FLC Group; and the system of central-level hospitals.

Deputy Head of the Central Economic Committee Nguyen Hong Son, Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi Nguyen Kim Son, and Director of Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City Huynh Thanh Dat signed a tripartite cooperation agreement.

Many collaborative activities have been effectively implemented, ranging from organizing training courses and capacity building for staff to cooperation in scientific research, technology transfer, and applying research results to practical situations, contributing to solving problems faced by localities and businesses. Several training and research units and organizations have been established through collaboration between VNU and partners, such as the Institute of Aerospace Technology established in partnership with Viettel Group; and several laboratories have collaborated with businesses, contributing to strengthening the connection between VNU's activities and partners. This has helped develop resources and create momentum for VNU's innovation and improvement of the quality of its activities.

The Steering Committee of the Northwest Program has signed a memorandum of understanding to transfer science and technology products under the Program to the leaders of 14 localities in the Northwest region.

 VNU Hanoi – A special partner of international agencies and organizations

Leveraging its organizational model, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) has been able to effectively and equitably collaborate with large, prestigious universities worldwide that have similar organizational models. This presents a favorable opportunity for VNU to quickly absorb experiences from around the world to strongly promote innovation in university governance, laying the foundation for improving the quality of training, scientific research, and management standards according to international norms; as well as developing and modernizing infrastructure, attracting financial and human resources, and transferring technology from international partners.

Through international integration, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) has gradually implemented and incorporated international elements into its high-quality training programs, advanced training programs, and talent training programs, ensuring relevance and up-to-date information. Currently, VNU is implementing 28 international joint training programs, accounting for 15%; and 14 programs taught partially or fully in English, accounting for 7.7%. In particular, the Vietnam-Japan University, with its unique characteristics, is implementing 8 high-quality master's programs in advanced engineering and interdisciplinary science fields based on original curriculum frameworks and training methods transferred from Japan. Several major universities worldwide have established cooperation offices at VNU to effectively implement collaborative activities.

International cooperation in scientific research has seen many positive developments, with numerous international projects being implemented, including several large-scale projects that have been launched and are underway, such as:VIBE Project 2017.08"Enhancing the capacity of faculty and administrative staff of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) using an innovative and entrepreneurial thinking approach (efficiency-oriented thinking) to promote and strengthen 21st-century skills and foster an entrepreneurial and innovative spirit among students."In collaboration with the Innovation Academy, University of Dublin, Ireland;European project on"Research on the history and digitization of Vietnamese epigraphic documents."Collaboration with the Council for European Research is carried out across a wide geographical area (Vietnam, France, and several other European countries);Project"Sustainable water systems applying Industry 4.0 technology aim to build sustainable communities in the Red River Delta and Phu Yen."A project funded by the Australian Government was implemented to reduce arsenic levels in the water and improve water quality to help people raise aquatic animals; a project funded by UNDP on "Building capacity in policy research, education, and training to promote green development."; ODA project with Japan regarding"Developing on-site research and training in analytical science to enhance human resources for food safety and environmental quality control in Vietnam"; 03 FIRST projects; ERASMUS+ programs with Spain, Germany, Austria, Romania and Italy.

Besides bilateral cooperation activities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) actively participates in international organizations, higher education associations, and multilateral cooperation mechanisms. VNU has effectively played its role as an active member of associations and networks of universities in the region and the world in participating in events and addressing regional and global issues. Throughout the term, more than 100 agreements were signed, including many with major partners, including prestigious universities worldwide. As a long-established university with a strong academic reputation, VNU is always a destination for universities, educational and scientific organizations, scholars, politicians, and social activists from around the world. Short-term, two-way student exchange programs are promoted. On average, about 100 international scientific events and conferences are organized annually at various levels, including many major events and conferences, with the participation of numerous domestic and international scientists, contributing to enhancing the prestige and reputation of Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

In collaboration with the Institute for Innovation, University College Dublin, Ireland, we are implementing the VIBE Project.

Strengthening internationalization indicators

Since 2016, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) has participated in the SHARE Project's credit exchange program, which funds students from ASEAN and EU countries to exchange credits for one semester or six months. The exchange program for staff and students has been strengthened; from 2015 to 2019, VNU sent 3,498 staff and 3,142 students abroad for academic exchange, research, teaching, learning, and interaction; simultaneously attracting 2,569 experts and lecturers to conduct research and teach. This period also saw an increase in the number of foreign students studying at VNU, reaching 6,441 students. These indicators are all positive.Exceeding the targets set by the 5th Congress..

According to the Times Higher Education (THE) rankings, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) ranks first among higher education institutions in Vietnam in terms of teaching, scientific research, and international integration.

 

The Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Nguyen Kim Son, and the General Director of Viettel, Nguyen Manh Hung, presented the establishment decision and appointment decisions to the leadership of the Institute of Aerospace Technology.

The Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Nguyen Kim Son; Mr. Do Vu Dien, General Director of MyWay Ha Long Investment and Hotel Joint Stock Company; and Mr. Pham Van Thanh, Deputy Secretary of the Town Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Trieu Town, signed a cooperation agreement.
