On July 11, 2025, the Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU, Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan had a meeting with Dr. Steve Maxner, Director of the Vietnam Center and Archives at Texas Tech University (TTU), USA, and a delegation of staff, students and postgraduates to discuss cooperation.

Attending the reception of the Vietnam Center and Archive delegation were also representatives of the Foreign Affairs and Magazine Department, the Faculty of History and the Faculty of Archival Studies and Office Administration.
Speaking at the reception, Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) expressed his gratitude to the Vietnam Center and Archives and Dr. Steve Maxner personally for connecting and effectively implementing cooperative activities between the University and TTU in general and the Center in particular. Specifically, in October 2019, the two sides successfully coordinated to organize an international scientific conference: "Memories, memories and archives of the Vietnam War - Humanistic values viewed from many perspectives" attracting the attention and participation of hundreds of domestic and international scholars and researchers from many countries such as the United States, France, Russia, China, etc.
Rector Hoang Anh Tuan emphasized: “In recent years, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has implemented a project to collect and translate original documents related to Vietnamese culture in the 18th and 19th centuries that are being stored at overseas archives in Spain, France, the Vatican, etc. to serve teaching and research. Therefore, we really hope that the Vietnam Center and Archives - TTU will connect so that the University can effectively exploit the documents stored at the Center in particular and in the United States in general.”
Speaking at the meeting, Dr. Steve Maxner, Director of the Vietnam and Archives Center - TTU agreed with the proposals from the USSH. The Center pledged to support the USSH in effectively exploiting important US archival documents related to Vietnam in the 20th century to serve research and teaching in the fields of History, Archives, Cultural Studies, International Studies... and support the University in developing the Center for Vietnamese Cultural Documentation overseas.
In particular, the two sides also agreed to organize a joint international scientific conference related to Vietnamese archival documents overseas, scheduled for June 2026.
Some contents were also discussed and agreed upon at the meeting, such as cooperation in training, exchange of lecturers and students, and international publishing. With its position as one of the leading universities in the field of Social Sciences and Humanities and in the current new context, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities is making comprehensive adjustments and internationalizing all training programs, aiming for 1/3 of the subjects in the training program to be taught in English to attract more international lecturers and students to research and study. The two sides agreed to increase the exchange of students, lecturers, and researchers; implement bilateral credit recognition, and coordinate the implementation of joint international research and publications.



Representatives of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the Department of Archival Studies and Office Management presented gifts and took souvenir photos with the delegation of the Vietnam Center and Archives of Texas Tech University.
