On June 11, 2025, Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-USSH) welcomed and worked with Mr. Kenichi Hayama, representative of the Sumitomo Foundation (Japan).
During the meeting, the representative of the Sumitomo Foundation - Mr. Kenichi Hayama took the time to share more in-depth about the Foundation, its purpose, meaning, as well as how to sponsor and request funding in 2025. He highly hopes that the Foundation can help implement many meaningful projects in Vietnam as well as for lecturers and students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
Mr. Kenichi Hayama introduces Sumitomo Foundation
The Sumitomo Foundation is a non-profit support organization established on September 25, 1991 by 20 companies of the Sumitomo Group to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the Besshi Copper Mine in Shikoku, Japan. The Foundation's goal is to contribute to the improvement of human society by mobilizing public support. Currently, the Foundation's grants are awarded to projects that address or solve problems facing humanity such as culture and the environment, and to support basic scientific research and international exchanges.
According to the representative of Sumitomo Foundation: The goal of the program is to promote mutual understanding between Asian countries and Japan through supporting research projects related to Japan. Information about this program is as follows:
- Eligibility: Researchers who are Southeast Asian or East Asian (non-Japanese), residing outside Japan and conducting independent research.
- Application deadline:
From September 1 to October 31, 2025.- Sponsorship period:
One year(April 2026 to March 2027), extendable for up to two years if necessary.
- Total funding budget:
