Dr. Edward Lahiff (University College Cork, Ireland) discusses career prospects in international development for students of the Faculty of International Studies.

On May 5, Dr. Edward Lahiff gave a talk to students of the Faculty of International Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU. Dr. Lahiff shared his personal experiences of studying and working in the field of development, as well as providing valuable information about job opportunities for students.

International development is a field with great potential for Vietnamese students. Students can work in areas such as health, education, humanitarian relief, emergency aid and project management. In addition, students can work in the public sector, international organizations, non-governmental organizations or in the private sector.

Dr. Lahiff noted that students need to have an updated, comprehensive knowledge system and prepare early with transferable skills to meet the requirements of the labor market. Dr. Lahiff also provided some useful websites, tools and online courses that students can access such as OpenIGO and Linkedin. The participating students also asked some questions to Dr. Lahiff.

He also shared that Vietnam has many favorable conditions to promote international development research. He believes that high-quality human resources play an important role in Vietnam's sustainable development.

Dr. Edward Lahiff received his BA and MA degrees from the National University of Ireland and the University of Manchester, and his PhD in Development Studies from the University of London. He has worked extensively in Africa and was a senior lecturer in agricultural research at the University of the Western Cape. He is currently a lecturer in International Development Studies in the Department of Food Business and Development, University College Cork, Ireland.

Dr. Edward Lahiff is currently a visiting professor at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi and a principal investigator of the Vietnam Social Integration Project. This is a research collaboration between University College Cork (Ireland) and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU Hanoi).
