The conference was attended by many international scholars from the US, France, UK, Germany, Russia, Poland, Switzerland, China... More than 60 presentations focused on 3 main topics:
- Human values from memoirs, memories and archives about war and peace in Vietnam;
- Human values from memories, memoirs and archives about Vietnam's economy and society;
- Human values from memories, memoirs and archives about Vietnamese culture, education, science and history.
In addition, some papers also introduce sources and archives in Vietnam and the world related to all three topics above.
Using a humanistic approach, the articles and speeches focus on sources reflecting human destinies, remaining historical memories and lessons from the past from the perspective of insiders and domestic and foreign researchers.
In addition to scholars and historical witnesses, the conference also had the participation and presentation of journalist Larry Berman - author of the book "Perfect Spy" about the legendary Vietnamese intelligence character Pham Xuan An; journalist and photographer Ted Englemann - who made an important contribution in bringing a copy of the diary of martyr Dang Thuy Tram from the United States to her family in Vietnam. On the sidelines of the conference, there was a photo exhibition "Wartime Rear" organized by the National Archives Center IV, the Youth Museum and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU.

Prof. Ron Milam, representative of the Institute for Peace and Conflict at Texas Tech University (USA) spoke at the opening ceremony of the conference.
Ms. Nguyen Phuong Ngoc - representative of the Institute of Asian Studies at Aix-Marseille University spoke at the opening of the workshop.
Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Thi Phung (Faculty of Archival Science and Office Administration) presented the introductory report at the plenary session.
Professor Larry Berman (University of California, USA) presented the report "The Mysterious Life of Pham Xuan An through Archival Documents and Interviews" at the plenary session. His speech showed the important role of archival documents and the memories of the character himself that helped him portray one of Vietnam's legendary journalists and intelligence officers.
Dr. Ron Milam presented the paper "Teaching Vietnam War from the "Bottom up"" at the plenary session. At the end of the paper, the speaker shared: in the past, our students thought of Vietnam as a war, and we are now trying to spread the message "Vietnam is the country, not a war".
