[Book] Regionalism: Theoretical and Practical Issues

Wednesday - May 15, 2019 02:46

The book "Regionalism: Theoretical and Practical Issues" is the result of many years of research by the author on politics and international relations, aiming to comprehensively, systematically, and up-to-date analyze and evaluate regionalism from a theoretical perspective. This analysis is then applied to the study of several typical cases of regionalism around the world, such as the EU and ASEAN. Drawing on the experiences of these two representative regions, the book also attempts to generalize the basic characteristics and different models of regionalism, thereby proposing some recommendations to enhance the effectiveness of regional and international integration for Vietnam.

To provide readers with a systematic and comprehensive understanding of regionalism, this book begins by exploring contemporary regionalism theories, examining both their development processes and theoretical foundations, as well as their main arguments. Building upon these theories, the work analyzes the formation and development of two specific cases: Southeast Asian regionalism and Western European regionalism. Finally, the book offers some reflections and suggestions for developing regionalism research and formulating regional integration policies in Vietnam amidst the current volatile regional context.

For several reasons, in terms of time, the book focuses only on the development of understanding of regionalism, and some theories of regionalism that are currently being studied and widely used in the world. In terms of space, the book also focuses only on the content related to the international relations aspects of regionalism in Southeast Asia and Western Europe within the theoretical framework of the aforementioned theories. The consideration of the applicability of these theories is also limited to the field of international relations. Regarding Vietnam, this book focuses only on analyzing the development of Vietnam's regional policy since the implementation of the Doi Moi (Renovation) policy (1986), clarifying Vietnam's understanding and approach to regional integration.
