Overview of the seminar "Policy on management and use of AI in newsrooms in the Philippines and suggestions for Vietnam"
Professor Gary Mariano opened his presentation with the question: Are you afraid that in the near future AI will take your job and make you unemployed? The question received many approving voices from lecturers and students in the auditorium.

Professor Gary Mariano introduces editing methods and designs for old printed newspaper products using tools such as Aldus PageMaker, Notepad, etc. and compares them with new AI tools such as Chat GPT to show that the application of AI tools in editing and designing newspaper publications is clearly effective and fast.
In the next part of the presentation, Professor Gary Mariano introduced the applications of AI to optimize the production of press publications in the Philippines such as data analysis, text editing, interviewing, fact checking, and image creation. But at the same time, he also analyzed the risks when applying AI in journalism such as bias, errors due to the "confidence" illusion of AI, privacy issues when AI receives information provided by users, etc.
Prof. Gary Mariano continues to analyze GenAI-related policies that have been adopted by Philippine newsrooms, analyzing UNESCO's "Recommendations on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence" and comparing it with the theoretical frameworks of Rogers (1962) and Cools & Diakopoulos (2023).
Professor Gary Mariano's presentation received many questions from students, lecturers, experts, journalists, and press managers in Vietnam.
In the discussion section, MSc. Phan Thanh Thuy - VTC Now Editorial Secretary shared the actual situation of applying AI tools in the production of press publications at the editorial office, and asked Prof. Gary Mariano about how to overcome AI errors in the production process.
