With a mission to be at the forefront of training high-quality, highly skilled human resources; researching, creating, and disseminating knowledge in social sciences and humanities, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities focuses on improving the quality of education, paying attention to and increasing investment in scientific research and innovation activities of lecturers and students.
Speaking at the conference, Vice Rector Dao Thanh Truong emphasized: “The university has implemented many policies to promote student scientific research, including the policy of prioritizing investment in student scientific projects with published products, issued in 2023. Most recently, on April 5, 2024, Decision No. 1839/QD-XHNV on the Regulations on organizing scientific research activities for students was issued. Accordingly, students with high-quality research projects will not only be rewarded and have bonus points added to their training score, but will also receive investment from the university at a rate of 10 million VND per project with domestic publications and 20 million VND per project with international publications.”
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Thanh Truong (Vice Rector of VNU-USSH) delivered a speech at the Conference.
These policies have been creating motivation and encouraging students' learning and research spirit, and more importantly, they have motivated them to be confident, proactive, and ready to pursue scientific research as a future career.
Leading to outstanding results
In the 2023-2024 academic year, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Hanoi, had 1043 out of 7915 students (nearly 14%) participating in student scientific research activities. In the 2023-2024 academic year, 605 student research projects were submitted, of which 194 received awards at the Faculty/Department/Institute level. After several rounds of evaluation, the expert council selected 98 projects to participate in the University-level Student Scientific Research Conference (including 5 projects from students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City). In addition, many students had their research published in prestigious domestic journals related to their research topics and participated in the University-level Student Scientific Research Conference in the 2023-2024 academic year.

At the conclusion of the conference, the School's Board of Directors awarded certificates of merit and prizes to 27 projects that won first prize, 42 projects that won second prize, and 26 projects that won third prize. Many research projects with scientific merit and practical applications were highly appreciated by the judging panel.
In addition, the Organizing Committee awarded the Outstanding Collective Prize for Student Scientific Research to 4 units based on the criteria of having a large number of participating students and many high-quality works: First Prize went to the Faculty of Psychology, Second Prize to the Faculty of Information and Library Science, and Third Prize to two faculties: Tourism Studies and Oriental Studies.

The figures above demonstrate the growing interest and participation of young people in the social sciences and humanities community in addressing topical development issues. Student research is no longer just a student movement but has truly become a valuable scientific forum for them to cultivate their passion for research. Through student research conferences, they will have many opportunities to express new ideas and valuable research results, gradually building upon them into meaningful and practical scientific achievements. These contributions will not only advance research fields and broaden the scope of science, but also provide practical solutions to address social development challenges.
Within the framework of the Conference, the Youth Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities honored the 05 best authors/groups of authors who received the "Green Torch" Award in 2024.

Speaking at the conference, Dr. Le Hoang Dung (Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City) congratulated the research results of the students from both universities, and affirmed: “The policy of shifting from a philosophy of rewarding to investing in and nurturing talent, which has been implemented at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, is an extremely correct strategy, highly effective in encouraging more and more students to participate in scientific research, while improving the scientific quality of research projects, discovering and nurturing young talents. The nearly 14% rate of students participating in scientific research is a dream number for many higher education institutions, and I believe that with systematic investment from the University, this number will continue to increase, and the quality of research and publications will be further improved in the following academic years. Building on the spirit of ONE-USSH, we hope that in the coming years there will be more projects from students of both universities participating in the university-level student scientific research conference.” It will be held alternately at the two units."

Dr. Le Hoang Dung (Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City) highly appreciated the research results of the students from the two universities.
The success of the 2023-2024 Student Scientific Research Conference is not only measured by the number of awards received, the research projects that will receive significant investment and continue to participate in higher-level scientific awards, but more importantly, by continuing to ignite and inspire scientific research in the younger generation in the field of social sciences and humanities.
