The Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Hoang Minh Son, chaired the 2025 Training and Science Conference.
Humanistic educational philosophy in the digital ageProfessor Hoang Anh Tuan affirmed: "Technology for humanity - Humans mastering technology." This is not just a slogan, but the philosophical foundation of all innovation activities at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - where technology is seen as a supporting tool, while humans, with their humanity, knowledge, and responsibility, are the creative subjects.
Based on that philosophy, the university has oriented itself towards building an integrated training model between humanities and technology, in which AI and digital skills are developed alongside ethical values, culture, and identity. This is clearly reflected in the development pillars emphasized by Professor Hoang Anh Tuan: Digital skills and artificial intelligence capabilities; Digital ethics and cultural identity in the digital environment; Safety, privacy, and social responsibility in the digital space. USSH not only equips students with technical skills but also aims to cultivate well-rounded "digital citizens"—individuals capable of critical thinking, creativity, and ethical behavior in the digital world.
Professor Hoang Anh Tuan presented a report at the 2025 Training and Science Conference organized by Hanoi National University.
From strategic thinking to concrete action.Over the past period, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has taken pioneering steps in the Vietnamese higher education system. Since 2021, the university has implemented digital skills training for students, becoming one of the first six universities to participate in developing MOOCs on digital skills for the Ministry of Education and Training.
In October 2022, the university announced a digital competency framework and a set of tools for developing digital competencies for students, creating a unified foundation for the entire training program.
From October 2024, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities officially incorporated AI into its undergraduate training programs with integrated courses, aiming to train AI capabilities linked to humanistic thinking.
By 2025, the university will finalize the Artificial Intelligence Competency Framework – a crucial tool for guiding training, assessment, and development of human resources to meet the demands of the digital age. Simultaneously, the university will implement a faculty training program – “AI Mentors” – to help faculty members become mentors for students in the process of “learning with AI, not just learning from AI.”
These activities demonstrate a humane, practical, and long-term vision: digital transformation is not just about equipping with technology, but about transforming mindsets, transforming how we teach, how we learn, and how we live in the digital environment.
Connecting knowledge, spreading humanistic values. In the report, Professor Hoang Anh Tuan also shared about USSH's expanding cooperation network with international organizations such as UNESCO, GIZ, Meta, and many partner universities both domestically and internationally, aiming to form a student-centered digital learning ecosystem. These programs not only promote digital transformation in education but also help spread the mindset of "humanistic global citizenship"—where each student is encouraged to participate, innovate, and act responsibly in cyberspace.
Professor Hoang Anh Tuan conveyed the message: “We are not just training people to use technology. We are nurturing digital citizens with humanity, identity, and responsibility.” This philosophy not only shapes the development direction of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, but also contributes to creating a humanistic-technological-liberal education model, reflecting the vision of Vietnam National University, Hanoi in its strategy to build a pioneering research university, leading the national education transformation.
The humanistic philosophy in the AI era will continue to open new avenues for Vietnamese education – where technology does not replace humans, but is developed to serve humanity, for a humanistic, creative, and sustainable learning future.
