Over thirty years of formation and development, the Faculty of Political Science, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, has affirmed its position as one of the leading centers for training and research in Political Science in Vietnam. Its predecessor was the Department of Political Science, established in 1995 with the mission of training and research in the field of political science, a relatively new field in our country at that time. In 2005, the Faculty was assigned the task of postgraduate training (master's and doctoral) in two specializations: Political Science and Ho Chi Minh Studies; and in 2008, the undergraduate program in Political Science was officially launched. Over three decades, despite facing many difficulties and challenges, the faculty, staff, and students of the Faculty have continuously strived to improve the training program, expand research directions, and engage in international cooperation, contributing to laying a solid foundation for the development of Political Science in Vietnam.
Associate Professor Pham Van Linh - Vice Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, shared his views at the conference.
In the context of ongoing globalization, international integration, and digital transformation, defining the direction, vision, and new breakthroughs for the field of Political Science is an urgent requirement. Ahead of the scientific conference "Political Science Training and Research in Vietnam Today and a Global Vision," the Faculty of Political Science has reviewed and adjusted its training program, clearly defining objectives, development directions, and strategic priorities suitable to the specific characteristics of a basic science training unit within the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. This process has received valuable contributions from scientists, agencies, organizations, and human resource users.
This conference is an important step in continuing those efforts to find answers to big questions: what can Political Science graduates do, and where can they work? What competencies, knowledge, and skills do they need to adapt to the demands of modern society? After 30 years of training and research, what is the global vision for Political Science in Vietnam? And how can the Faculty of Political Science become a leading and prestigious institution for training, research, and policy consulting, with a high standing on the academic map domestically, regionally, and globally?
Associate Professor Dr. Ngo Dinh Xay - Former Head of the Department of Political Theory, Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Committee, shared his views at the conference.
According to the Organizing Committee, answering these questions is not only academically significant but also crucial for the survival of an educational institution in the digital age, where innovation, integration, and creativity are inevitable trends. The reports at the conference focused on eight major areas, including: 30 years of building and developing the Faculty of Political Science – achievements, limitations, causes, and lessons learned; training political science human resources – opportunities, challenges, and development directions; political science research – key priorities in the new phase; developing a faculty to meet development requirements; digital transformation, curriculum innovation, identity building, and internationalization of teaching content; the role of political science in the relationship between politics and national/regional development; promoting local, national, and international cooperation in training and research; And finally, we propose mechanisms, policies, and solutions to elevate the Political Science department of the Faculty to regional and global prominence.
Dr. Nguyen Tran Tien - Deputy Head of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, presented a paper entitled: "Political Science Training in India and Political Science in Vietnam: A Comparative Perspective".
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hoa - Head of the Department of Political Science, Academy of Journalism and Communication, presented a paper entitled "Political Science Training and Research in Vietnam Today and a Global Perspective".
Dr. Nguyen Thanh Tung - Faculty of Political Science, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, presented a paper entitled "Some thoughts on elite training in the field of Political Science".
The conference "Political Science Training and Research in Vietnam Today and a Global Vision" is not only an opportunity to look back on 30 years of development and growth, but also marks the beginning of a new journey – a journey of aspiration for international integration. With an open, scientific, and receptive spirit, the organizing committee hopes that the opinions, initiatives, and proposals shared at the conference will significantly contribute to shaping the Faculty's development strategy, creating momentum for continued innovation in training programs, improving the quality of scientific research, expanding international cooperation, and affirming the position of Vietnamese Political Science in the new era.
