At the 2014 Outstanding Young Faces Award Ceremony, Vu Trung Hien (student of K56, Social Work, Faculty of Sociology) representing 195 students who won the title of Outstanding Young Faces at the grassroots level in 2014 gave a speech reporting on their achievements and sharing their personal experiences. Trung Hien has always tried his best to improve himself, actively studied and conducted scientific research to realize his dream of becoming an activist for the rights of people with disabilities. In the future, he wants to establish a center providing social work services for disadvantaged groups, including people with disabilities.
In 2005, Hien had a difficult time walking and integrating with people due to the consequences of an accident that deformed her left leg. In 2010, after joint replacement surgery, Hien was able to walk normally and gradually lost her inferiority complex. That experience made her deeply sympathetic to people with disabilities who face many difficulties in life. Hien decided to take the entrance exam to the Social Work Department of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi). After nearly four years of studying at the school, Hien has achieved many admirable achievements.
Outstanding young face Vu Trung Hien
In the 2013-2014 school year, Hien was honored to receive the title of Outstanding Young Face at the National University level in 2014, with excellent results (average learning score of 3.76, excellent training result of 99.5 points). With his own efforts, Vu Trung Hien received a scholarship to encourage learning (both semesters) and continued to receive the Posco scholarship awarded by Hanoi National University and the Posco scholarship fund of Korea.
Besides studying, Hien has also actively participated in scientific research. In the 2012-2013 school year, she won third prize at the school level with the topic“Social work services in solving the employment needs of people with disabilities in Hai Ba Trung District”.In the 2013-2014 school year, Hien participated in the project“Advocating for the implementation of policies to build public works suitable for people with disabilities based on community mobility (Research at University of Social Sciences and Humanities and University of Natural Sciences - VNU)and helped his research group win the first prize at the school level, the first prize for “Outstanding scientific research for students of the National University”. Through his scientific research topic, Hien proposed timely policies for disabled students in the school, calling for the attention and help of students and philanthropists inside and outside the school to put these policies into practice.
With the desire to become a competent Social Worker, Vu Trung Hien is always aware that: mastering knowledge in class and participating in scientific research is not enough, because real life is always diverse and rich. Therefore, Hien always tries to participate in group activities, volunteer activities and community support.
Taking on the role of class monitor of K56 Social Work since his first year of university, Vu Trung Hien has always fulfilled his responsibilities and actively participated in the activities of the faculty, class, and school. Therefore, Hien is always highly appreciated by teachers and classmates for his enthusiasm and sense of responsibility when holding this role. With his enthusiasm and exemplary role as a class monitor, Hien received a certificate of merit "Students with achievements in Class - Union - Association work” school year 2012 - 2013.
Vu Trung Hien is also known as an active member of the Stone Flower Club - a club that helps disabled students in the school. During the 2013-2014 school year, Hien took on the position of Club President, fulfilling his responsibility of helping members in difficulty, creating conditions for disabled students to assert themselves and participate in communication and education activities about the rights of people with disabilities.
In addition to school, class and club activities, Hien also participates in other volunteer activities outside the school such as: volunteering for the Hope Classroom Project for children being treated at the National Children's Hospital, coordinated by the Education Newspaper and the National Children's Hospital from November 2011 to May 2012; participating in the exam season support activity organized by the school's Youth Union. Vu Trung Hien received a certificate and a certificate of merit from the school's Youth Union for this activity. Hien shared: "With each activity I participate in, I feel more and more mature and gain more experience for myself."
Hien's experience is that no matter what you do, you must set goals for yourself. When you have a goal, you will have the motivation to try and find a way to pursue your passion. And with efforts in learning and social activities, Hien is getting closer to the goal of becoming an active person in the field of Social Work, especially helping people with disabilities in the future.
