The young man is passionate about social work.

"To succeed in anything, one needs self-confidence. Self-confidence will give us the courage to overcome all difficulties and challenges" - these were the words of Vu Trung Hien in his speech at the 2014 Outstanding Young Person Award Ceremony at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

At the 2014 Outstanding Young Person Award Ceremony, Vu Trung Hien (a K56 student majoring in Social Work, Faculty of Sociology), representing 195 students who received the Outstanding Young Person award at the grassroots level in 2014, delivered a speech reporting on his achievements and sharing his personal experiences. Trung Hien has always strived to improve himself, actively studying and conducting scientific research to fulfill his dream of becoming an activist for the rights of people with disabilities. In the future, he wants to establish a center providing social work services to vulnerable groups, including people with disabilities.

In 2005, Hien faced difficulties in mobility and social interaction due to an accident that deformed her left leg. In 2010, after joint replacement surgery, Hien was able to walk normally again and gradually overcome her feelings of inferiority. This experience led her to deeply empathize with people with disabilities who face many challenges in life. Hien decided to enroll in the Social Work program at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi). Nearly four years into her studies, Hien has achieved many remarkable accomplishments.

Outstanding Young Person Vu Trung Hien

During the 2013-2014 academic year, Hien was honored to receive the title of Outstanding Young Person of the National University in 2014, with excellent results (GPA of 3.76, excellent conduct score of 99.5). With her efforts, Vu Trung Hien received an academic achievement scholarship (for both semesters) and continued to receive the Posco scholarship awarded by the National University of Hanoi and the Posco Scholarship Foundation of Korea.

Besides her studies, Hien has also actively participated in scientific research. In the 2012-2013 school year, she won third prize at the school level with her research project."Social work services in addressing the employment needs of people with disabilities in Hai Ba Trung District."During the 2013-2014 school year, Hien participated in carrying out the research project."Advocating for the implementation of community-based policies for constructing public facilities that are compatible with people with mobility disabilities."Research conducted at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the University of Natural Sciences - VNU Hanoi)And she helped her research team win first prize at the university level, the first prize for "Outstanding Scientific Research Project for National University Students". Through her scientific research topic, Hien proposed timely policies for disabled students in the university, and appealed for the attention and support of students and philanthropists inside and outside the university to put these policies into practice.

Driven by a desire to become a competent social worker, Vu Trung Hien has always been aware that mastering classroom knowledge and participating in scientific research alone is not enough, because real life is always diverse and complex. Therefore, Hien always strives to participate in group activities, volunteer work, and community support.

Serving as class president of the K56 Social Work class since her first year of university, Vu Trung Hien has always fulfilled her responsibilities completely and actively participated in activities of the faculty, class, and university. Therefore, Hien is always highly regarded by her teachers and classmates for her enthusiasm and sense of responsibility in this role. With her enthusiasm and exemplary conduct as a class president, Hien received a certificate of commendation.Students with outstanding achievements in class, youth union, and student association activities."School year 2012 - 2013.

Vu Trung Hien is also known as an active member of the Hoa Da Club – a club dedicated to helping disabled students at the university. During the 2013-2014 academic year, Hien served as the club's president, fulfilling his responsibilities in assisting members facing difficulties, creating opportunities for disabled students to assert themselves, and participating in communication and education activities about disability rights.

Besides school activities, classes, and clubs, Hien also participates in other volunteer activities such as: volunteering for the "Hope Classroom Project" for children undergoing treatment at the National Children's Hospital, a collaboration between the Education Newspaper and the National Children's Hospital from November 2011 to May 2012; and participating in the exam support program organized by the school's Youth Union. Vu Trung Hien received certificates and commendations from the school's Youth Union for this activity. Hien shared: "With each activity I participate in, I feel I am becoming more mature and accumulating more experience for myself."

Hien's experience shows that in any endeavor, you must set goals for yourself. Having goals motivates you to strive and helps you find ways to pursue your passions. With her efforts in academics and social activities, Hien is getting closer to her goal of becoming an active social worker, especially in helping people with disabilities in the future.
