The project started in early December 2014 with the activity of donating and exchanging books to receive handmade gifts made by students of the Faculty of Information and Library. After more than a month of implementation, with the help of many units such as Kim Dong Publishing House, the National Library as well as students inside and outside the school, the project has collected nearly 3,000 books in many different fields. After the collection process, the Faculty's professional volunteer team processed and classified the documents. This is also an opportunity for members of the Faculty of Information and Library to apply the skills and knowledge they have learned into practice; promoting the beautiful image of their training major.
This project includes organizing a mobile library and donating friendly bookshelves to students at Ta Phoi Secondary School. Starting from the afternoon of January 23, volunteers arrived at Ta Phoi Commune, Lao Cai City to begin the main activities of the project. With the help of Lao Cai City Youth Union officials, Ta Phoi Commune Youth Union as well as teachers at the school, the group quickly settled down.
Early the next morning, January 24, volunteers from the Faculty of Information and Library began preparing for the exchange program as well as organizing a mobile library, transferring and arranging books at the school. The exchange session in coordination with Ta Phoi Secondary School, Ta Phoi Commune Youth Union and Apatite Company included contents such as: introducing books, giving gifts to the school, giving gifts to students in difficult circumstances, organizing games with prizes for students at the school. . Nguyen Tran Thanh Phuong, a student of class 8A, Ta Phoi Secondary School said: “We are very happy to have you here today. From now on we can comfortably read books and stories right at school.”. Seeing the students enthusiastically turning each page of the book in the school yard, each volunteer felt even more joyful and happy with the collective effort that the whole team had put in.
In the afternoon and evening of the same day, the volunteers had a sports and cultural exchange with the Youth Union of Ta Phoi commune at the commune's cultural house. Under the enthusiastic cheers of the people and the students, the friendly football match ended with a score of 4-3 for the staff and students of the Faculty of Information and Library. However, looking at the joy of the students, the handshakes after the match between the players of the two teams, perhaps everyone understood that: the most important thing is not the result of the match, but the happy moments of exchange between both sides. The program ended with an evening cultural exchange along with outdoor activities such as campfire, bamboo dancing, etc., which received a lot of support from everyone.
On January 25, after cleaning the school in the morning, the whole group had their last meal at the school before saying goodbye to Ta Phoi, getting on the bus and officially ending the mobile volunteer library project in Ta Phoi commune, Lao Cai city, Lao Cai province. Witnessing the warm feelings of the people, teachers, and students of Ta Phoi Secondary School, the volunteers of the Information - Library Department looked forward to continuing to bring the next mobile volunteer library projects in the future to children and people in the highlands. Not only bringing knowledge to poor students, these projects also contribute to promoting the reading culture, encouraging the spirit of sharing books to everyone.
