Department of Party History - 40 years of construction and development

Traditional thickness

In 1956, Hanoi National University of Education was established. Right from the first years of study, the school determined that political and ideological education subjects had an important position in the training program. In 1963, the Marxist-Leninist Group was established under the school and from 1965, political theory subjects were stipulated as compulsory subjects for students before graduation. The Marxist-Leninist Group was transformed into the Marxist-Leninist Department, includingParty History Group, taught Party History (LSĐ) to all students of the school. However, before 1974, Hanoi National University of Education did not have a faculty or department specializing in training bachelors in Marxist-Leninist sciences and LSĐ.

In the 1974-1975 school year, implementing the direction of the Central Party Secretariat and the Ministry of Universities and Vocational Secondary Schools on establishing regular bachelor training faculties focusing on political theory majors, Hanoi National University of Education established a number of faculties such as: Political Economy, Philosophy (under the School) and Party History Major (located at the Faculty of History).

As a unit of the Faculty of History, majoring in History (called the Department of History))was established and officially started its mission of training bachelors in History from September 1974, a 4 and a half year program, with separate studies from the first year. Professor Kieu Xuan Ba, former Deputy Head of the History Department, a specialist of the Ministry of Higher Education and Vocational Training (now the Ministry of Education and Training) was the one who actively contributed to the establishment of the School of History.

From 1974 to 1980, apart from Mr. Kieu Xuan Ba, the Department only had Associate Professor Le Mau Han (Head of the History Department) and Mr. Hoang Ba Sach (Head of the Department) as teachers directly teaching specialized subjects on History. Teaching assistants, including young staff who were students of the Department, were retained as teaching staff.

By November 1985, in response to general requirements, the Minister of Universities and Vocational Secondary Schools issued a Decision to establish the Center for Training Cadres to Teach Marxist-Leninist Theory.(BDCBGDLLMLN) at Hanoi National University of Education. The Center performs the tasks of the Department of Marxism-Leninism, but has the additional function of assisting the Department in training lecturers of political theory subjects nationwide, including the subject of Political Theory...

Since 1988, the Center's LSĐ Group teachers have been transferred to the LSĐ Department of the History Faculty. The Department has also received a number of new staff. The number of permanent staff in the Department is usually over 10 people.

Thus, since 1988,The History Department of the Faculty of History simultaneously undertakes two tasks: researching and training bachelors in History according to the Faculty's curriculum and textbooks; and teaching History according to the Ministry's curriculum and textbooks for students of faculties and non-History majors of the entire Hanoi National University of Education.

In 1990, the Department was assigned the additional task of training PhDs and in 1993, was assigned to train Masters in the field of Civil Engineering.

In 1995, when the University of Social Sciences and Humanities under the National University of Hanoi was established, the Department of Political Theory of the Faculty of History still assumed the above two functions, but taught the subject of Political Theory (now the subject of the Revolutionary Path of the Communist Party of Vietnam) for the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the University of Natural Sciences (VNU). The Center for Training and Fostering Political Theory Lecturers of the National University of Hanoi was transferred to the National University of Hanoi and after adding functions and tasks, it was named the Center for Training and Fostering Political Theory Lecturers (CTP). The Department of Political Theory of this Center is responsible for teaching Political Theory for the remaining units of the National University of Hanoi (Cau Giay area).

Since October 2013, the Center for Training Teachers of Revolutionary Paths of Vietnam National University, Hanoi has been dissolved, and the teachers of the Center's subject of Revolutionary Paths have been transferred to work at the Department of Revolutionary Paths of the Faculty of History. The Department still assumes the same two functions, but the scope of teaching the subject of the Revolutionary Path of the Communist Party of Vietnam is for the whole of Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

Proud achievements

Over the past 40 years of operation since its establishment, there have been 25 permanent staff members who have been working at the Department of History. Currently, the Department of History, Faculty of History has 7 permanent teachers, including 4 Associate Professors, 1 Doctor, 2 Masters, PhD students.

Along with that team of permanent teachers, to ensure the mission and improve the quality of training, in addition to its own efforts, the Department has sought the help and cooperation of most units and scientists inside and outside VNU with the same expertise, such as the Institute of Party History, Academy of Politics (Ministry of National Defense), Institute of History, Institute of Military History, Faculty of Military History of Academy of Politics Region I, Faculty of Military History of Academy of Journalism and Propaganda, Faculty of History of Hanoi National University of Education...

On training and scientific research activities,From 1974 to 1980 (courses 18-24 by faculty), the Department trained bachelors in the field of Civil Engineering from the first year, according to its own program. For the subject of Civil Engineering alone, the specialized class had up to 150 class periods, all of which were for a graduation thesis (now called a thesis).

By 1980 (course 24), the training of LSĐ bachelors was carried out according to the general curriculum of the History Department. That is, the first three years of study were shared, and in the fourth year, they were separated into specialized classes to study specialized topics and write graduation theses. After 4 years, they became LSĐ bachelors. Up to now, the Department of Party History has trained nearly 900 bachelors, over 600 graduate students and 90 doctoral students.

The staff of the Department also participate in training masters and doctors outside VNU. Many PhD theses defended at the Department have been published in books or their main content has been published in specialized journals, making practical contributions to practice, especially to the research and teaching of LSĐ. Many graduates have become prestigious scientists, holding key positions in scientific agencies and directing practice at the central and local levels.

The Department's staff has presided over and participated in compiling many textbooks for the Ministry of Education and Training, such as:Outline of Vietnamese history, Lecture series on the history of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Textbook on the history of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Textbook on Ho Chi Minh's ideology, Textbook on the revolutionary path of the Communist Party of Vietnam...

Many teachers are assigned to preside over or participate in scientific research projects at the school, VNU, and state levels. The Department of Civil Engineering is one of the few units that has presided over and organized a number of scientific conferences that have attracted the participation of many researchers, of national significance.

Every year, the Department organizes field trips for teachers and students in many places in the country, which contributes significantly to expanding practical knowledge, helping teachers and students have a visual view and specific awareness of historical events. The LSĐ Department has organized a number of research and field trips abroad for teachers, such as China, Cambodia, Malaysia, and Singapore.

Looking back on the 40-year journey of construction and development, it can be affirmed that the Department of Military Science has made great efforts and has successfully completed all training and scientific research tasks on Military Science. The outstanding achievements of the Department are:

Firstly, we have built a team of high quality staff.Good character, correct ideology, strong political will, high professional qualifications. Associate Professor, People's Teacher Le Mau Han, Teachers Hoang Ba Sach, Pham Thi Chinh, late Master Vu Dinh Kong, Associate Professor, Doctor Dinh Tran Duong, Master Ngo Van Hoan, Master Nguyen Huy Cat are those who have made many positive contributions to the development of the Department of Law, Faculty of Law.

Second, the Department has built a systematic, basic, and detailed training program for bachelors, masters, and doctoral students., compiled many textbooks and lectures to serve the training work of the School well and helped some other units open undergraduate and postgraduate training majors in Party History..The Department has been a leader in the entire university sector in training bachelors, masters, and doctors in LSD. The frameworks and training programs developed by the Department, after many years of application, have demonstrated high scientific and practical values, not only for the University but also for many other units in the country.

Third, the Department has successfully completed the task of teaching the subject of Revolutionary Path of the Communist Party of Vietnam (now the subject of Revolutionary Path of the Communist Party of Vietnam) to generations of students of the School and of VNU.. This is a regular, extremely important and heavy task because the professional content is very difficult and is also affected by many socio-economic life at home and abroad... The quality of teaching and learning the subjectRevolutionary line of the Communist Party of Vietnam,According to a survey by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, from 2009 to 2012, all achieved good results.

Fourthly, the Department has directly contributed to training a large number of staff with bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in History, with good quality and attracting a large number of students.Although there are years when only 1 or 2 students study, and many teachers transfer to other units, in recent years, the number of students, graduate students, and postgraduates studying Party History has increased significantly, some years up toover 60% of students, graduate students, and researchers of the Faculty of Law.

Fifth, the Department's teachers have made great efforts in scientific research, presiding over many research topics at all levels. The Department has chaired or participated in many scientific research projects at all levels and all of them have been accepted with good quality. There are hundreds of monographs and research articles published in prestigious publishing houses and journals.

Sixth, the teaching staff increasingly has a more objective and comprehensive understanding of Party History and actively innovates teaching methods.Although not yet completely uniform and there are still different opinions, in general, cadres have a more objective and comprehensive perception of the LĐ, in the direction of respecting historical truth.

Seventh, regarding international exchange, all staff of the Department have been sent abroad for advanced training or research, and attended scientific conferences in various forms and times..

Experience gained

The first,The subjects of Party History and the Party's Revolutionary Line have very high ideological and political content, so teaching and learning must grasp the Party's viewpoints and lines in each historical period as well as in the contemporary period to avoid being one-sided at one time or in one direction.

Monday,Training and research are two pillars that ensure the sustainable development of the Department. To teach well, it must be based on in-depth research, understanding the problem, and having rich, multi-dimensional materials; to research well, it must be through teaching practice, contact with students, graduate students, and researchers to discover, think, and explain the problem.

Tuesday,The Department of History has had many successes in university and graduate training, becoming a trusted address for learners due to many reasons, the most important of which is the advantage of being in the team, in the environment of the Faculty of History, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU. The Department has recognized, taken advantage of and needs to strive to promote this advantage in the coming time.

Wednesday,The teaching staff is the factor that determines the quality of training. Although the staff is not large, but because of knowing how to expand connections and coordinate with other units and scientists, the reputation and influence of the Department is increasingly enhanced with the outside.

Thursday,Good quality programs, textbooks, course outlines, lecture notes, reference materials, research topics, journal articles, various field trips, dedication and high professional competence of teachers, etc. are factors that ensure maintaining and improving the training quality and professional reputation of the Department.

The 40 years of establishment and development of the Department of History and History is a journey with many difficulties but also very honorable and glorious. The Department of History and History under the Faculty of History and the Department of History under the Center for Training of GVLLCT have strived to excel in all tasks. The Department has been honored to receive many certificates of merit from VNU, the Ministry of Education and Training, and the Prime Minister.
