In the atmosphere of the whole country commemorating the founding day of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (March 26, 1931 - March 26, 2015), and looking back at the achievements made in the nearly one year since the 8th Congress of the University's Youth Union, the editorial board of the University's website conducted an interview with Comrade Tran Bach Hieu (Secretary of the Youth Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union of Vietnam National University, Hanoi) about the past activities and future directions of the University's Youth Union.

PV: Political and ideological work, and guiding the moral lifestyle of Youth Union members in university classrooms, is a difficult task, and not every school does it well. So what are the fundamental solutions for the University's Youth Union to achieve the results mentioned above?

Comrade Tran Bach Hieu:In its development orientation, the Student Union always identifies political and ideological education, and guidance on ethics and lifestyle for its members and students, as one of its core activities, not just for the present time, but throughout each academic year.

Combining practical experience gained over the years, the Youth Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has made adjustments and changes in its activities to ensure both the effective transmission of political and ideological content and its relevance and practicality to its members. It seeks solutions to eliminate the feeling of top-down imposition, allowing members to engage with political and ideological content naturally and intimately.

Identifying the core team of Youth Union and Student Association officials (from the School Youth Union Executive Committee to the branch, sub-branch, and sub-student association levels) as the key to listening, sharing, and exchanging information is crucial. By understanding the thoughts and feelings of their peers, these Youth Union members become the best and most effective ambassadors of the School Youth Union in each class they participate in.

Understanding the sentiments of these small opinion groups is also the basis for the Student Union to devise appropriate measures and convey messages to students in a way that is truly engaging, comfortable, and natural.

The Youth Union and Student Association of the university presented the Humanities Bookcase project as part of the 2014 Summer Youth Volunteer Campaign.

Furthermore, the school's Youth Union skillfully integrates the content of "Studying and following the moral example of Ho Chi Minh," directives and resolutions of the Party and the Youth Union, and other propaganda content into general meetings, classroom activities, and collective events. These contents aim to inspire positive patriotism, love for the nation, pride in the country, the capital, and the school itself.

PV: The result of a collective effort is the combined achievement of individuals. Could you share more about the results that the student unions and clubs in the school have achieved recently?

Comrade Tran Bach Hieu:In terms of numbers, in less than a year, the number of clubs in the school has increased to 14 (with 6 newly established clubs). These clubs, upon establishment, quickly became operational and achieved remarkable results, such as: the Media Club, the Cultural and Historical Propaganda Club, the Humanities Vovinam Club, the Bollywood Dance Club, the Humanities Student Blood Donation Team, the SEG Student Event Organizing Club, etc.

Regarding volunteer work, the youth clubs of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, and the entire Vietnam National University, Hanoi, in particular, and the youth of Hanoi and the whole country in general, have achieved high effectiveness. In the past, the student union branches have been proactive in developing volunteer plans, and the University's Youth Union has been responsible for reviewing and supporting these plans. This has contributed to maximizing the strengths of each student union branch and club, especially the expertise of each unit and organization.

Volunteer activities are no longer limited to the general activities of a single team within the Faculty of Humanities; they are now diverse and multifaceted, encompassing various departments and clubs, and are moving towards a professional and truly compelling image of student volunteers engaging in community work and creating a positive impression within the community.

Besides volunteer activities, the youth's charitable work at the university has also achieved significant results and had a strong impact on society. Clubs with outstanding activities recently include the Hoa Da Club, the Student Social Work Team, and the student unions of the Psychology, Information and Library Science, Archival Studies, and Office Management faculties… with their effective winter outreach trips to mountainous provinces in the North, leaving a positive impression on the community.

PV: Building on the achievements already made and leveraging collective strength, what specific plans does the Student Union have for the near future?

Comrade Tran Bach Hieu:2015 was a year of many major national and Hanoi-wide commemorative events, especially for the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. In the very first month of 2015, the Standing Committee of the University's Youth Union outlined its key plans for the coming period. In addition to its regular activities, the Youth Union also focused on commemorating major holidays of the university, the capital, and the country. These activities encompassed various aspects, from political and ideological work to professional research, supporting the holistic development of student members, promoting cultural and sports activities, and engaging in charitable and social work.

Party development activities and external relations activities both involve specific actions, focusing on fostering pride in the school, enhancing the image of the school's youth, and extending the school's youth's image to the wider community.

With a changed approach, focusing on key activities that create a truly profound impact, a series of programs are implemented meticulously and systematically, truly addressing the aspirations of student union members, fostering pride in the school, and upholding the revolutionary traditions and ideals of the union and students.

Leveraging the professional strengths of each unit, coupled with continuous effort and a proactive, open-minded approach to work, combined with the initiative, dynamism, and creativity of youth, and integrating into the school's development, I am confident that the tasks set forth will be completed excellently and leave a positive mark in 2015.

Thank you very much!
