What would you do if, at the prime of your life, you were diagnosed with terminal cancer? A beautiful wedding was imminent, a promising job and career awaited you, and your passion for community work was burning brightly? Khanh Thuong's life was hit by storms right at the beginning.
The small, gentle girl quietly faced difficult questions: how to continue living when she was sick? How to avoid wasting away in her own fear? Was cancer the end?
But like a resilient rose that continues to bloom brightly in the storm, Khanh Thuong truly found true love and the greatest meaning of her life when she was ready to share her love with those in similar circumstances.

Khánh Thương remained optimistic during her battle against illness. She shared, "We don't have the right to choose death, but we do have the right to choose how we approach life."

Cancer patients in Vietnam are "starved" for information about their disease, lacking care and empathy from the community. They feel helpless, hiding their fears and despair in the darkest corners of their lives, and gradually losing faith in life..
Overcoming her own pain, Khanh Thuong has done something incredibly meaningful. She identifies the suffering and helplessness of cancer patients, brings it to light, and calls on the community to care and support them. Sharing wigs, designing special bras, popularizing exercises specifically for breast cancer patients, organizing free yoga classes, and conducting cancer awareness programs in community groups… these are small actions, but they demonstrate the deepest understanding and empathy from a human perspective. She helps them open their hearts, find peace, and continue living without fear:Be stronger than fear - Take care of yourself - Love each other - Be useful to one another.With its deeply humane messages, the Vietnam Breast Cancer Network quickly attracted more artists and celebrities to participate in raising awareness about breast cancer among women. Her actions and voice moved even high-ranking leaders in various ministries and sectors to pay more attention to the rights of cancer patients.

Khanh Thuong participated in an activity of the Vietnam Breast Cancer Network. She sent the message: "Don't live in darkness and fear, share and let love be given."
Khanh Thuong had a beautiful wedding and a deep love with the Australian man who has always loved and supported her throughout her remaining years. Amidst the physical pain of enduring long chemotherapy sessions were months of happiness filled with love. Living each day to be better is already precious for an ordinary person. But Khanh Thuong chose a more positive and beautiful way of life by dedicating her limited time to helping and encouraging others to have more faith and love for life.

Following news of Nguyen Khanh Thuong's passing, on March 18th, Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien posted a letter of condolence to the family on Facebook:I truly appreciate and am deeply moved by Khanh Thuong's kind heart, optimistic spirit, and unwavering determination. I know that ever since graduating, Khanh Thuong has founded and organized many charitable programs for the group.Bracelet of Love (Free Hugs group) projects such as: Love in Embrace, Connecting Love, Giving You Tomorrow, New Year's Eve of Love, Projects of Hope, An Hour for the Visually Impaired… As a university lecturer, Khanh Thuong truly inspired students with her knowledge and character. Later, even while undergoing treatment, Khanh Thuong continued to organize communication campaigns to raise community awareness about cancer, help those in similar situations alleviate their suffering, and encourage them to change and live more meaningful lives each day.".
According to Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien, Khanh Thuong's belief in life, warm love, and unwavering resilience have truly spread and touched the hearts of many Vietnamese people and international friends.
"What Khanh Thuong left behind for this world serves as a quiet and gentle reminder, helping me and my colleagues to be even more determined to implement better healthcare policies to promote the protection, care, and improvement of people's health..From the bottom of my heart, I believe that every day that passes is a day that Khanh Thuong has lived fully for herself and for her loved ones.", Minister Tien shared.

Nguyen Khanh Thuong was born in 1982 in Thach That, Hanoi. She is a former student of the K45 class of the Faculty of Journalism and Communication and a lecturer in the Faculty of Journalism and Communication at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. After being diagnosed with breast cancer, she moved to Australia to live and receive treatment. In 2006, Khanh Thuong founded the "Free Hugs Group" (FHG). FHG's first campaign, "Love in Arms," was held at the end of 2006 at the Nguyen Dinh Chieu School for the Blind, Bach Mai Hospital, the central pedestrian zone, and Hanoi Railway Station. Following the success of the "Love in Arms" campaign were other impactful programs such as "Connecting Love," "Giving Children a Tomorrow," "New Year's Eve of Love," "Projects of Hope," and "An Hour as a Blind Person"... The "Giving Children a Tomorrow" program, implemented in 2008, was a gift to celebrate Tet (Lunar New Year) early for underprivileged child patients at K Hospital and the National Children's Hospital, encouraging them during their long hospital stays. In 2007, she was selected to represent Vietnamese youth at the International Conference on Asian and European Cultures in Malaysia. In 2008, she attended the International Youth Conference on National Development Policies in Cambodia. In 2010, she was recognized by the Cancer Council of Australia in New South Wales as an outstanding team leader in a fundraising campaign for cancer prevention and research. She was also one of the top 10 outstanding young people in Hanoi in 2012. In October 2012, after her engagement ceremony, she discovered she had cancer. Since then, Thuong has dedicated herself to founding the Vietnam Breast Cancer Network, with many campaigns and charitable activities such as "Overcoming Fear," "Telling Stories Through Video," etc. The Vietnam Breast Cancer Network has provided many spiritual gifts to women with breast cancer. To date, the network has accomplished much: millions of Vietnamese women have benefited from two breast cancer awareness campaigns in 2013-2014 titled "Overcoming Fear" and "Stronger Than Fear"; thousands of women have benefited from 13 breast cancer awareness workshops organized by the Vietnam Breast Cancer Network; hundreds of Vietnamese women with breast cancer have received free rehabilitation exercises after mastectomy and mastectomy; hundreds of Vietnamese women with cancer have been lent or given wigs during chemotherapy; hundreds of women have received support for beauty treatments during chemotherapy and radiation therapy, and yoga to improve physical health; and numerous other forms of informational, psychological, and awareness support have been provided to those affected by the disease and the wider community. |
