The prolonged storms and heavy rains over the past few days have caused severe damage to both lives and property in the northern provinces. Through various means, faculty, staff, and workers throughout the university have implemented many practical activities to share the losses with the people of the North, including many faculty members, teachers, workers, and students in the provinces affected by the natural disaster.
Since September 10, 2024, the University's Trade Union has launched a fundraising campaign among all staff and employees, with each person contributing at least one day's salary. This initiative has received enthusiastic participation from all union members. To date, the University's Trade Union has received 307,555,289 VND from staff and employees.
On September 16, 2024, Professor Hoang Anh Tuan, Secretary of the Party Committee and Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, on behalf of all faculty and staff, presented a donation of 100,000,000 VND (One hundred million Vietnamese Dong) to the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front. This donation reflects the heartfelt desire of the faculty and staff of VNU-USSH to contribute a small part in alleviating the suffering caused by natural disasters, storms, and floods.
Professor Hoang Anh Tuan - Secretary of the Party Committee and Rector of the University, Dr. Ngo Thi Kieu Oanh - President of the University's Trade Union, and several teachers presented a gift of gratitude to the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.
This morning, September 17, 2024, representatives of the Trade Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities presented the Trade Union of Vietnam National University, Hanoi with 100,000,000 VND (One hundred million Vietnamese Dong) to support relief efforts for those affected by the floods. The University has already allocated 348 million VND to 116 VNU-USSH students facing difficulties due to the floods; over 1 billion VND donated by partners for the new academic year 2024-2025 will continue to be considered and awarded to students with excellent academic achievements, those from disadvantaged backgrounds, and those in difficult circumstances. In the coming period, the University's Trade Union will continue to implement support activities for union members and students severely affected by the floods, aiming to provide timely assistance and encouragement to the University's staff and students.

In response to the fundraising activities of VNU-USSH, on the morning of September 16th, teachers and students of the High School for Gifted Students in Social Sciences and Humanities organized a fundraising activity to support people in the northern mountainous provinces affected and damaged by Typhoon No. 3, with the enthusiastic participation of all teachers and students of the school. Sharing about this meaningful activity, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quang Lieu - Principal of the High School for Gifted Students in Social Sciences and Humanities, said that after a week of Typhoon No. 3 causing great damage to people in the northern provinces, with the spirit of "Love others as you love yourself," and "Helping those in need," teachers, parents, and all students of the school have made donations to support the affected people and help them overcome the difficulties caused by the storm and floods, with a total amount of nearly 100 million VND raised.

Through various forms of support, faculty and staff have also enthusiastically responded by contributing at their residences, at schools, or directly assisting people in flood-affected areas.
In addition, the Trade Union of Vietnam National University, Hanoi in general and the Trade Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in particular, with the strong consensus of all staff and lecturers, have also canceled the organization of the 2024 Mid-Autumn Festival program, using the funds intended for the event to support flood victims; many units have donated items such as food, water, school supplies, books, etc., and have directly contacted local authorities to send them as gifts.
The Trade Union of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) is committed to ensuring that support is provided for the right purpose and to the right people in need. VNU will adhere to three expenditure objectives: contributing a portion to the general support fund of the Vietnam Education Trade Union; providing support to VNU students affected by the recent storm; and directly assisting the most severely affected communities and donating to specific schools.
Although this contribution may not be large compared to the losses suffered by the people of the North, with the compassion, sharing spirit, and social responsibility of a university, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities hopes to somehow stand alongside the people of the North during this difficult time, helping them to quickly overcome the consequences of the natural disaster and return to normal life!
